I have been using this Belkin Wireless Adapter for nearly 2 weeks. All of a sudden, last night the adapter stopped working. Now when I plug the adapter into the computer I get two icons in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. One says, "Unknown Device" and the other says, "USB Device Not Recognized". My Laptop computer continues to connect to the Internet. I used my roommate's adapter on my desktop, and it worked fine. Thus, I can be certain there is something wrong with the Belkin adapter. Please help me troubleshoot this! I visited some online forums and was unable to fix the issue myself.

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?

This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.

Hi Emma,
Try these first:

change channels to 1-6-or 11. Make sure you change all of your wireless computers.

check is to make sure you are NOT using "IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network."

You can find at setting under "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then under "Authentication" tab of your network properties.

This particular authentication method is periodically logging you off the network and re-authenticating.

Check the adapter in device manager to make sure that windows is not shutting the adapter down to save power.

Cordless phones and wireless ethernet cards use overlapping frequencies.As a test, you can unplug the AC cords from all the cordless phones in the area and see if it helps.

First check whether the adapter is working or not?
In the device manager you are able to detect the adapter, that is a good sign.
When you go to the adapters properties, does it say working properly,
If it is , then you just need to connect to the wireless network and the light will lit up
