Try your cable box on a different tv set and also try connecting the cable directly into the t.v, if that makes no difference then your tv set may have a power supply problem that was caused by an a.c line surge during that storm.
It sounds to me like you have a bad plasma panel. Unfortunately you may now be in the market for a new TV if you are not under a warranty of some kind. That issue is unfortunately unrepairable because it requires you to replace the entire panel and therefore is not cost effective.
it sounds like the projection unit went out. if it is still under waranty then i would take back and get it fixed for free. if anything i would contact sony and tell them what is wrong with the tv.
if you have a picture the engine is probably ok. this is a common problem with this set.it is probably the main chassis (DM or FMT)

CHECK C2P08 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P03 (3.2 VOLT REGULATOR) ON THE SIGNAL PCB. 3).
CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB. Good Luck, big IRISH.
