One of the first things that your would check is if the upper spray arm is spinning properly. The next thing that you would check to assure is if the water is going through the upper spray arm and coming out of the upper arm. This is a schematic of the upper arm assembly as well as the water distribution assembly as well click this link http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/frame_diagram.aspx?diagram_id=28384683&pkw_=basket&model_id=5168615&NewWindow=1
if you did not have water coming out of the upper spray arm you would have to take this entire section apart and assure that there was no soap or debris blockages stuck inside the flow path that the water does travel through the distribution assembly area that is shown in the diagram. Also if you do take this area apart and find no blockages along this distribution assembly area. Your next course would be one of two thing you could also check this area where part number 8 is located on this diagram is termed as the chopper this is the area where food particules and debris get shredded up and sent down the drain line. Sometimes bigger debris will get trapped in areas around the chopper and you would have to remove the chopper and clean this area in order for food, debris, or particules to no longer be floating around in your wash cycle. Click this link for your schematic of the sump and chopper area of your unit http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/frame_diagram.aspx?diagram_id=28384679&pkw_=basket&model_id=5168615&NewWindow=1 If you did not find any debris or build up located in either of these two locations there is also a product sold at your local home depot that is made to clean the inside of the dishwasher from built up soap deposits called AFFRESH this product is used for both dishwashers which is the yellow bag and front load washers as well which is in a green bag. You basicly run the tablet in your dishwasher without any dishes in the unit and it removes any built up soap deposits throughout your machine. I reccommend this product to most all my customers that I do repair for during the week and find that it works the best out of all other brands of cleaners. As to the water distribution area you would have to take apart each section and inspect each piece visually in order to assure that there is no build ups or deposits in the unit. Try the AFFRESH though and if you still have the spots on the top rack area then you would have to take apart the water distribution area and look for build ups in that area as well as the sump are as well. The model number is DDB1501AWZ. Couter top model. It looks pretty much the same althought the top is different. I took it all apart, but could not find any blockage. I will try the AFFRESH. I did not take the top apart, but I did try blowing my vacuum into the tubes. I wasn't sure what was holding the upper part in place.
