My Ti83 silver edition will not turn on.

I installed new batteries, including the backup battery and then did a reset. The calculator turned on and worked fine. The next morning it would not turn on again. I can change batteries and reset it and it will work for a day, but then it stops. What is going on.

I'm not sure if this will help you patchesb7; it sounds like your calculator is having issues :(
This will help others whose calculators suddenly won't turn on anymore, even after changing the batteries.

Note:
This will return the calculator to the way it was when you got it out of the package. Any data or programs have stored since will be lost.

Step 1: Remove all four AAA batteries.

Note: You will have to hold down the CLEAR button while doing Steps 2 and 3. Do not let go until after you have pushed ON in Step 3. I found this easiest to do by holding the calculator upside in my left hand with my pointer finger holding the CLEAR button so the ON button was easier to access.

Step 2: Hold down the CLEAR button (located under the arrow keys) and reinstall the AAA batteries.

Step 3: Press ON button and then let go of both buttons. The screen should say the RAM has been cleared. Press CLEAR to continue.

Is there areset button my keys are frozen

Unfortunately, you can only access RESET from within the menus of the calculator. You will have to remove all of the batteries and let the system naturally reset. The TI-84 Plus uses five batteries: four AAA alkaline batteries and one SR44SW or 303 silver oxide backup battery. The silver oxide battery provides auxiliary power to retain memory while you replace the AAA batteries. Re-install the batteries and reprogram your functions.

I turned on my calculator, and whenever i press clear, i get multiple "carrot" signs, when it even works. The number's will work sometimes, but i can't get the calculator to turn off....

You may want to try & reset your calculator. Take out the batteries including the backup battery behind a little door in the battery compartment. You'll need a small phillips screwdriver to take out the battery.

Leave the batteries out for at least 10 hours and then reinstall them and try your calculator again. If this doesn't work, try replacing all batteries including the backup battery.

Hope this helps.

The most likely cause is that the batteries are depleted, the main ones and the backup battery. Replace with fresh ones. In so doing you may have to readjust contrast.

To adjust the contrast.
Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press and Hold the UPArrow to increase contrast or DownArrow to lighten the screen.

In the message you reported, I notice that your OS is old. The latest version is the 1.19. You might see fit to update the OS. You can use the TIConnect software, downloadable from education.ti.com.

Install the TI Connect on your computer. Connect the calculator to the computer (after you install TI Connect) with th TI USB Silverlink Cable.
Run TI Connect and if you are connected to the Internet, click the Updates button in TI Connect.

TI-84 Plus Silver Edition turns off immediately, all batteries have been replaced, but unit still turns off. I even replaced the memory battery.

You may need to reset calculator. Take ou the batteries and the backup battery. Leave them out for about 8 hours. Then put everything back in. Hopefully this will work.

Take out the AAA batteries and hold the on/off key for thirty seconds. Replace the batteries and it should come on. If it doesn't remove the backup battery and the AAA batteries and hold the on/off key for another 30 seconds. Replace all batteries and turn it on again.

Won't stay on.

have you tried manually resetting like the manual suggests? Take out the AAA's only, hold the ON button for 10 seconds and then re-install the batteries and turn it on. If that doesn't work, I have no other suggestions.
