Just bought a Uniden BC72XLT. and can't figure out how to just scan the preset aircraft freq.Help Barry

these scanners are a little hard to operate i have one of these it took me a while...Ok its because you have it on hold.when you turn your scanner on press your scan button.and your scanner should start scanning...

Your BC72XLT SCAN feature samples one frequency/channel at a time, but it should only stop on active frequencies. If it's stopping on inactive frequencies you may need to adjust the squelch. Just to verify you are trying to program frequencies the scanner is able to receive.
This unit is limited to the following freq range.
25.0-27.995
28.0-29.695
29.7-49.995
50.0-54.0 5
108.0-136.9875
137.0-143.995
144.0-147.995
148.0-174.0 5
406.0-419.99375
420.0-449.99375
450.0-469.99375
470.0-512.0 6.25

If the frequencies your are trying to enter or outside these bands you will get a error.

Next Direct Entry Mode Programming
Press Func. + PGM
Press E to enter ch in current location
To change location pres func + Up ^ or down key to choose location then press E
Enter your freq then press E

Clear out everything do the following

While holding down 2, 9, and Hold, turn on the
scanner. It takes about 3 seconds to initialize
and CLEAr appears.

To take out individual Freq. Manually tune to that freq. Ch/Bank on the scanner. Enter 0.00 like a new freq for that ch. and it will be gone.

You can't add to the preprogrammed search functions, but you can program frequencies from these bands into any locations you wish within the 100 programmable channels, where it will jump bands while scanning.

1. If you mean on "bank" of channels, then you have locked out the others. To unlock them, place the scanner in "scan" mode & press each button that corresponds to each locked out bank until all are "on", as indicated near the top of the LCD. If you can't scan "bands", meaning all frequencies between 25-54, 118-174 & 406-512 Mhz, you may be stuck in the "capture" mode. Let me know if this is the case (not likely) & I'll coach you through it.
