1) You can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.uniden.com/content/ebiz/uniden/resources/ownersmanuals/DXAI5588-2om.pdf

2) Do it the old-fashioned way. Hold a recorder up to the answering machine while you play back the messages.

Record messages

Make sure it's in the "Answer" mode, not the "Announce" mode. The Announce mode merely plays an outgoing message but does not record an incoming message. The Answer mode does record incoming messages.
Since you declined to specify the model of your Uniden phone I can't tell you exactly how to switch modes. Select the model of your phone from the list beginning here to download a copy of the manual.

We don't know how to retrieve out messages from outside the house.

To play back messages remotely, first you'll need to have set up your two-digit security code (PIN). You can download a copy of the manual here which gives all the details. Once you've done that, here's how to use the system:

1) Call your telephone number and wait for the system to answer. If the answering system is off, it will answer after about 10 rings and sounds a series of beeps.
2) During the greeting message (or a series of beeps when the answering system is off), press 0 and enter your PIN code within 2 seconds. The answering system announces the current time and the number of messages stored in memory. You hear "To play incoming messages, press zero-two. For help, press one-zero." You will hear a beep.
3) Enter a command within 15 seconds. Each command thereafter must be entered within 2 seconds. These are the available commands:
  • 0 then 1 Repeat a Message*
  • 0 then 2 Playing incoming Messages
  • 0 then 3 Skipping a Message
  • 0 then 4 Deleting a Message
  • 0 then 5 Stop Operation
  • 0 then 6 Answering System On
  • 0 then 7 Memo Record/Stop**
  • 0 then 8 Greeting Message Record/Stop**
  • 0 then 9 Answer System Off
  • 1 then 0 Help
* For the Repeat a Message function, press 0 then 1 within about four seconds to repeat the previous message, or press 0 then 1 after about four seconds to repeat the current message.

**For the Memo Record and Greeting Message Record function, the first time you enter the corresponding command, it starts the Recording function. If you want to stop the recording, press 0 then 7, 8 or 5.

4) After the command has finished, you hear intermittent beeps indicating that the system is in the command waiting mode. You may enter another command at this time from the chart above.
5) Hang up when you're done.

We have v tech phone after set answering system "A" sign on phone instead of "o" sign also not recording, please let me know how to solve this problem. Thanks

The "A" indicates announce mode, where the system plays an outgoing announcement but does not record incoming messages. You need to switch it to the record mode, where it will record incoming messages. Unfortunately, since you declined to specify the model of your VTech DECT 6.0 system, I cannot tell you how to do this. I can only direct you to enter the model number into the search box here to download a copy of the manual.

Not recording

Record Time sets the duration for recording the incoming messages. You have three
record time options. The options "1 minute" or "4 minutes" set the duration for
recording the incoming messages. "Announce only" answers the call but prevents
the caller from leaving a message.
1) Enter the Answ. Setup menu, and then the Record
Time submenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).
2) Press volume up/down to select Record Time
(1 Minute, 4 Minutes, or Announce Only)
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.

Lost the manual, can't get hooked up

You need to use an audio CDr, data or computer CDr's will not work in this machine. I don't know this specific machine, but usually you select the input, then 'rec type' eg manual,1 track or 1 disc, then press record to get into record pause, start your source, then press play on the unit to start recording. To finalize, you press finalize then either the play or rec button to start the finalize process.

How Do I Make An MPEG Recording?

You can record video with audio onto the Memory Card. Follow the instructions below. Recording moving pictures onto a MEMORY CARD 1. Insert a Memory Card into the slot on the camcorder. 2. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD position. 3. Set the power switch to CAMERA mode. 4. Press the START/STOP button, the images are recorded on the MEMORY CARD in MPEG4. * You can record 10 ~ 20 seconds continuously. * You can record a still image on the Memory Card by pressing the Photo button instead of the START/STOP button. 5. Press the START/STOP button to stop the recording. Notes: * Moving images that you recorded are saved in *.asf file format on the Memory Card. * The moving picture images on a Memory Card are smaller size and lower definition than those on a Tape. * The sound is recorded in mono. * The following functions cannot be operated in M.REC Mode. - DIS (Digital Image Stabilizer), Digital Zoom, Fade, Program AE, Digital Special Effect, Slow Shutter. * Don't insert or eject a tape during Memory card recording as it may record noise. * Don't eject the Memory Card during recording as it may break the data on the Memory Card or the Memory Card itself.
