SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Dishwasher Problem

I had this same problem so I took the front panel off to access the thermal fuse.  What I found instead was that food had become lodged in the door latch which was keeping the door safety switch from operating properly.  I took a thin screwdriver and removed the food from the cavity.  Since you did not have the problem in your first five years the cavity just might be the problem since that is about the amount of time it took me to get too much food stuck in mine as well. This solution took five seconds and requires no disassembly.

Check the continuity of the thermal fuse. It's clipped onto the electronic control inside the console.

SOURCE: lights do not come on kenmore elite dishwasher

There is a thermal fuse on this model located on the control board. Remove control panel and you will see it attached to the board with 2 wires going to it. part number is 8193762. Hope this helps.
