Sony KP-51WS500: This TV comes on for a few seconds of picture and sound. Then the picture fades to green and then turns off within another 10 seconds. Is this a power supply problem? Or should I look in other areas? I have not tried to fix it.

Adjust the Green screen drive, turn it down and see if that corrects the problem.
Remove the Front Bottom Panel on front of Tv and behind it will be the Screen/Focus Control block
It will have 3 controls on Top for Focus to each Tube R/G/B
and under them are the Screen drive controls for R/G/B.
But if adjusting the Green Screen Drive Control does not Fiox It ,then you have a Bad Green Tube.

The adjustment inf seems right. However, there is no removable panel on the Front Bottom of this TV. Thus it is unclear where to make the adjustments mentioned.

Below the Front OF Your Screen is the bottom panel Cover and IT doses come OFF,their is 2 screws that hold it on,they are on bottom of panel behind 2 cover buttons, one on each side.

Let me know when you get the Front Panel off and adjust the screen drive control ,while your their take a look at the CRT board that is connect to the Green Tube make sure it is OK and does not a any burt marks on it.

It sounds like the focus pack needs to be replaced (p/n 122392535) and re-adjusted. The re-adjusting could be the tricky part if you haven't done these before.

Tv comes on for 10 seconds then fades to a green tint then turns completely green for a few seconds than turns off

Hi,
Symptom shows tv got problem with green picture tube that need to be replaced.
Rear projection tv has 3 picture tubes, red-green-blue to make color picture.
Since its an old model so spare parts would hardly be available and local tv repair shop will help you to arrange required part, if they can.
Thanks.

Sony tv red flashes

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a shorted red picture tube.It is not at all uncommon on sony rear projection. The gun shorts and the set identifies the problem and goes into shutdown. Usually there are diagonal lines in the picture before it shuts down. this is an unfortunate problem because this set delivers a great picture. The dealer cost of the tube is around $200. When the repair is complete your're probably looking at $400-$600. The only problem is that the green tube and the blue tube also have chance of having the same problem. It'a tough call . But from my experience , I have replaced the green tube and had the blue tube goe within a year. Scrivitron
