If jiggling the lid switch causes the picture to show dimly, the switch may have bad contacts.
Can you see the picture if you shine a flashlight or lamp on it at an angle? If so, your problem is specifically the display backlight (including perhaps the lid switch in the circuit). If it uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL), the CCFL tubes may be going bad, and jiggling the lid switch is having the same effect as multiple flips of a light switch to start up weak fluorescent light tubes. If the screen has a pinkish tinge or the light flickers a lot, that's another indicator that a bad tube is your problem. A replacement CCFL is probably about $8-$10, but the replacement requires some disassembly and highly skilled solder work (you have to make a physically small connection, and you can't have heat on it for more than three seconds at a time).
Thats a problem on the LCD screen to check this you need to open the back cover of your device.check the ribbon connector that connects between the screen monitor and the player it looses it connection sometimes a cut on the wire often happen open and close of the screen..you may replace the ribbon if you are handy enough.check also the connectors that goes to the back light of the screen re insert them all make sure all connectors are fitted well .be careful when re setting connectors there is a high voltage at the inverter board of the backlight so turn off the power before doing the job.do first the resetting of all connectors and see if it resolve the problem if not post again and will proceed to further repair.

Could not get back cover off. Screws to small and easily stripped. Don't think it is repairable.
Yes, it seemed to make sense. Don't think I have the skill to fix it. The small screws are easily stripped in taking out. Will have to only use the player when using a TV.
Thank you for your help.
