Player works fine with TV. Picture will not display on screen. The little pressure button that goes down when you close the lid seems to be part of the problem. You giggle it and the picture dimly comes on just a little

Could not get back cover off. Screws to small and easily stripped. Don't think it is repairable.

  • russkamp Jul 08, 2011

Yes, it seemed to make sense. Don't think I have the skill to fix it. The small screws are easily stripped in taking out. Will have to only use the player when using a TV.

    Thank you for your help.

If jiggling the lid switch causes the picture to show dimly, the switch may have bad contacts.

Can you see the picture if you shine a flashlight or lamp on it at an angle? If so, your problem is specifically the display backlight (including perhaps the lid switch in the circuit). If it uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL), the CCFL tubes may be going bad, and jiggling the lid switch is having the same effect as multiple flips of a light switch to start up weak fluorescent light tubes. If the screen has a pinkish tinge or the light flickers a lot, that's another indicator that a bad tube is your problem. A replacement CCFL is probably about $8-$10, but the replacement requires some disassembly and highly skilled solder work (you have to make a physically small connection, and you can't have heat on it for more than three seconds at a time).

Thats a problem on the LCD screen to check this you need to open the back cover of your device.check the ribbon connector that connects between the screen monitor and the player it looses it connection sometimes a cut on the wire often happen open and close of the screen..you may replace the ribbon if you are handy enough.check also the connectors that goes to the back light of the screen re insert them all make sure all connectors are fitted well .be careful when re setting connectors there is a high voltage at the inverter board of the backlight so turn off the power before doing the job.do first the resetting of all connectors and see if it resolve the problem if not post again and will proceed to further repair.

LCD screen looks like bad TV reception

if the display returns to normal when you press the bezel at on end means there is a bad connection to the inverter behind the bezel itself or the inverter is ready to give up the ghost.
you can attempt to dismantlethe laptop and remone the lid or in some cases just unscrew the bezel and remove the plastic cover, the inverter is at the bottom of the display you can't miss it

hope this helps

Turning on

I second quavuama. I had the same symptoms after my four-year-old "broke" it. He actually figured it out and suggested the fix. He said "Daddy, the little button is stuck..." OK, yeah right, I said. But he pointed to the small auto shut-off button just above the source and setup buttons. When the lid closes the button is pushed down and off goes the picture. Well little four-year-old fingers was fingering the button and it got stuck in the down position. I used a sharp tip to work it back to the "sprung" position. Picture now comes on.

I have a philips Matchline tv (29pt6361/79r) the tv works fine except it automatically turns the volume down without any buttons on the remote or tv being pushed

well depends on how far it turns the volume down as to what the cause is and if the volume bar on screen display comes on when the vol. goes down. if it just goes down a little you probably have the "smart sound" setting turned on in the audio menu turn it off and see if prob. goes away. if the vol. bar comes on the screen whenever the vol. goes down the you most likely have a bad button on your front panel and it doesn't have to be the vol. down button. it you think it is the button it would need solder work to be changed most likely shop job.

PORTABLE DVE PLAYER MODEL PDV-705

Check to see if the little button that the screen closes down on (which turns off the screen and only the screen) is stuck, or jammed under the little hole that it comes up. This button is about the size of a pin on most DVD Players4.gif, and is located very close to the screen on either side.
