Anonymous Posted on Jul 03, 2011

I have a Mits WS-65511 that the picture lighting started to to fade in and out. We still have sound but the picture is not the right color, fussy and lighting is dim. I did reset the TV, no difference. I did reset the convergence to factory reset, no difference.

It sounds like it could be the one of the Power Boards that got a fault.

Is the picture the same for all of the inputs or just on certain ones?

  • Anonymous Jul 03, 2011

I've looked into it further and it could be as simple as servicing the Lenticular Screen and Fresnel Lens which basically involves removing the screen from the case and splitting the Lens & Screen then fixing them back together with some special double sided tape from Mitsubishi. Sounds easy until you remember its 2 x 55" sheets of glass and when you put them back together there's a 0.16" overhang at the bottom. I also hadn't realised until I looked into it further that it's a rear projection CRT not LCD which I dont' know a great deal about fault finding on so think I'm probably better passing on this one and see if another expert could help you diagnose the fault. If you get any further I've got a copy of the Service Manual which details how to strip it down to access the releant parts. Cheers Andy

Hi,
Three basic color picture tubes in tv are getting weak in performance and requires more current to work properly. There is Screen voltage settings that needs adjustment for each picture tube in tv.
Let me know are you familiar with electronics stuff repair and willing to work in live tv?
Thanks.

WHY DOES IT KEEP TURNING OFF

Yes. Rear-proj.with 3 picture tubes. These, like most newer tvs have self-checks that shut the tv off if the fault could worsen problems for the TV (such as damage picture tubes.) or it's not able to put a picture up.
After it shuts off, you can press menu and input/device together for 5 secs, and it will flash a 2-digit code (such as "23" or "24", etc.)(vertical or horizontal error.) Though you will need to call a repair shop for repair. It's usually better if they are Mits. factory authorized, as they'll likely have more exper. on Mits.

If you have misplaced your remote control, and have engaged the Mitsubishi WS-65511 HDTV Front Button Lock, you can bypass the front button lock by pressing and holding the MENU button on the front panel for more than 8 seconds.

I hope that helps.

It is having double image. The second image is to the right with red color.

Sounds like a convergence problem. See if you can adjust the customer convergence controls (in the menu).
If you can not adjust one or both the colors than your convergence amp is toast!

Press power button green light comes on.But no picture no sound,

I have had my WS-65511 fail like this, first at 4 years, second 2 weeks later, then 3rd time yesterday (4/14/2009). In past, the tech replaced a thermal sensor p/n 299P313010A (but Mitsubishi says that part is not for WS-65511 and that it does not have a thermal sensor - go figure). It is a white rectangle with about 30 pins in 2 rows and is soldered onto a board in the TV. List price is about $25. Might be your problem.
