Question about Canon PowerShot A60 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Black LCD Canon A60 Cute camera, many nice features. Installed a Lexar 256mb CF. Worked well until just past the warranty period. Now nada, just a black screen, or scrambled LCD. If you squeeze the shutter, wysiwyg--a black photo. Contacted Canon and essentially they offered me an "upgrade" to their A70 for $150 plus $10 for shipping. And a 3 month warranty. Any advice or do I have an expensive paperweight?

I have heard that there is a CCD sensor issue with a few selected models. Somtimes if you bang on the case this will help a connection problem in the camera and you will get some change in the image on the display. If this does happen then that is the problem you have and canon will fix it free. Look around on the canon usa website i have an A70 that had this problem and they fixed it in a few weeks. Sometimes the display is all black sometimes it has purple lines and bangning or twisting the case fixed it. It did not sure it but it was a way to tell if it was the connection problem they admit being a problem.

I was ready to toss the camera. A couple of good bangs did the trick, who would have known. Thanks!

Dead LCD - is there a fix?

Understand how you feel, I love my A75 too. But forgive me if this seems obvious, but did you try pressing the DISP button on the back of the camera with the camera turned on? If so, next have you tried downloading your pictures to view them on your computer? Are they also black like your screen? If so, the problem may be a defective CCD imager. Canon should then fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

CF Card Compatibility

Limited only by the size of the memory module that is currently available on the market. 512 to 64gb but over 2GB your camera has to support FAT32 format and I'm not sure if it does. It can connect to a PC running XP so one might assume it handles FAT32 files. Here's some more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Flash http://web.canon.jp/imaging/PSA60/index-e.html

Capacity of cf card to be used with a60

According to Canon's website, the limit is 256MB. You could try it with a larger card, though. Nothing bad will happen to the camera, and it should either work fine or not at all. Here is the page from Canon's site: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsSupportAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8774
