U81 error literally means 'Microprocessor Communication Error on the Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter'.

This error can be caused by a number of different reasons but one of the most common is a software / firmware problem relating to the Freeview part of the unit.

If you turn the unit off for 30 minutes it should reset the fault.

At this point to need to check what version of firmware you have installed and then check the Panasonic website for your country for the latest version.

I have a samsung bluray dvd player/recorderBD-HDD Combo, when I want to record a t.v. programme It says it is full, how do I delete all the recorded programmes to make room for more?

The delete feature isn't well explained but it is in the E-manual for the BD-H8900M on page 89. You'll find Delete file or Partial Delete File options in the Options menu from the Play-back screen or the list of Recorded TV. To see the list of recorded programs, press List at the bottom of the remote. Alternatively, press the Home button on the remote (above the up arrow). Then select Recorded TV and press the Enter/Select button in the center of the arrow keys. Look for the Options icon (a square with a line going from the center of the square through the upper right hand corner). You may have to highlight a file. Press the Select key. Go through the menu for the Delete command and press Select. You will be prompted to confirm the choice.

The User Manual for this Samsung Blu-ray player with Freeview Recorder is available from the product support page: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/BD-H8900M/XU/ . The direct link showed as http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201501/20150116094738990/H8500_H8900_ENG-1103-1-0507_BM.pdf in my browser history.

I hope this helps. If you have a different Samsung Blu-ray player with HDD recorder, please add a comment with the model number.

DVD recorder DMR-EX78EB - Keeps showinf error message 'U81' on display. This means that it does not perform set recordings. What causes this please and how can we fix it as I am fed up with finding...

This is one of several error codes generated by the main microprocessor IC which are tripped by corruption, preventing proper operation and which may require the processor to be reset (where practical) or replaced.

The U81 and U80 codes don't mean anything in particular because the corruption error(s) could be caused by a number of different reasons. It does not point to any specific one fault. This is where the confusion sets in as to the origin of the 'error codes' in any device.

U81 means (in technical terms) 'microprocessor communication malfunction' on the universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter' or 'microprocessor feedback information error'.

This is not something the user should undertake to repair themselves; it should really go to an authorised Panasonic repair centre. The cost depends on the parts used and the labour, however, it is not unfixable. You can always get a quote on this and a second opinion, then decide for yourself if it is economical or not.

I posted this 'advice' for this (and a similar) model previously. The DMR-EX series of models are prone to U81 - which is a common (and extremely irritating) error code. As I said, it is not unfixable, if you are prepared to spend a fair amount of money on the repairs by a qualified service technician in a fully equipped workshop with access to all the required components and service manuals.

Certainly worth investigating at least.

After connecting a new TV samsung 37C6000, my trhee year old panasonic dmr-ex85 shows the U81 error and doesnt tune the tdt channels nor works properly. What can I do?

Check that C1801 is not leaky. If so, check if IC1801 has blown. If it has blown, it will also need to be replaced.

Usually it's only C1801 leaky, replace it and thats it.

You can find the capacitor on the main board, under the digital board that has ribbon cables going to the dvd drive.

Hope this helps.

I have an error message U81. The DVD recorder

These are error codes generated by the main microprocessor which are tripped by corruption, preventing it's operation and which requires the processor to be reset.

The codes do not actually mean anything at all because the corruption error potentially has a great many possible causes.
It does not point to any specific fault as such.

U81 error literally means 'Microprocessor Communication Error on the Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter' but I dare say if Panasonic told you that , you would be no further forward.

Corruption can arise for many different reasons .. and is not surprising in a box that has an aerial feeding endless streams of complex data into it, has a mains connection with interference on it, has two internal data storage and retrieval systems, either of which can be problematic... and sits permanently bathed in electrical and radio frequency fields of varying intensity.

Causes can be difficult to identify and may be internal or external.
Such problems may be exacerbated during the transitional phase of the DSO [ Digital Switch Over ]

In practice, all one can do is follow good practices:
Don't stack gear - or give it plenty ventilation if you do.
Ensure good clean mains supplies.
Ensure a properly installed aerial system with sound connectors and adequate screening.... etc.

Problem finding saved sound

Symbian OS/S60 phone: With the Voice Recorder on the screen, open Options. Select Go To Gallery. All the recordings you have saved can be accessed from the Gallery. You should see a list of recorded tunes. Highlight a recording, open Options and choose "Set as ringing tone." Windows Mobile phone: When you are still in the Voice Recorder, highlight a recording in the list and open the Menu. Select Set As Ringtone.
If your phone menu doesn't show the Set As Ringtone choice at all, you have to set it manually. Go to the Home screen, push Start, and open File Manager. You have to move the recording from the folder /Storage/My Documents/Notes to the folder /Storage/Application Data/Sounds. Then, go to the Start menu and launch Settings. Select Sounds, open Ring Tone, and pick up the recorded ring tone.
