Canon EOS-20D Digital Camera with 17-85mm Lens Logo

Question about Canon EOS-20D Digital Camera with 17-85mm Lens

1 Answer

Error 99 This is the second day with the camera and i got a Error 99, i read up on some websites that said to take out battery for a few mins and that resets the error, well it worked. Before I reset it I did take off the lens and put it back on. Now the error seems to be gone. I took the camera out with me to work and it was quite cold in the car so i am hoping that it was the moisture/dew that caused this error. Anyone else have any input on this?

Some case this type of error is in connection of incompatible lenses. I had same problem with a Sigma DL 70-300/4-5.6. It's working only in Av position (Aperture priority) and every time I need to set the minimum aperture and it's work. If you forget renewing the aperture setting quickly drop in the ERR99 message because this machine can't control the aperture settings. Very esasy to check any type of lens. Set to Av pos and set a big value in (e.g. 16) and push the depth ctrl button under the lens release button and look into the lens and you need to see that the aperture moving. (I hope anybody understand me, sorry my english isn't perfect yet)

Error 99 when using Quantum Transceiver

Error code 99 is a non specific error code a sort of catch all. Remove the lens and clean the contacts (lens and camera), remove the battery and the memory card. Leave the camera in this state for about 10 mins, enough time to discharge any build up of charge or static. Reinsert the battery and the memory card and reattach the (cleaned) lens switch on leave for 5 seconds and press the shutter button to see if this has cleared to problem.

Error code 99. Please tellme what this means.

This is what the people at the canon tech support say to do for error 99

read this!! :)

The guy at tech support listened and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them.

Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.

I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked

hope this works for you!!!! have a nice day!! :) :)

Wont take a picture displays error 99

Other than sending the camera to the shop to get replacement, you can do this method to temporarily solve the problem. Set the camera to P mode, go for Sensor Cleaning Mode, Manual Cleaning, and clean now... You will then hear the mirror lock and followed by ERR99! All you have to do now is to shut off the camera, take off the battery and waith few seconds. Reinstal the battery and immediately you'll hear the mirror resetting itself. The camera should be working just fine for now until you shut it off next. I suspect, this error are linked to the mirror or sensor lock up thingy....

Canon rebel XS error 99

Instead of taking out the battery, just open and close the battery compartment to reset the camera.

SVRGuy02 is right, set the slep time longer to avoid the issue so much and just open and close the battery compartment before beginning each shooting exercise

Error 99 only when flash pops up

I know what you two are talking about. I ordered a Canon EOS 300d from a site called "Keh" and I had never used one before... so I get it in the mail on time. The camera works fine for a few minutes then I get an "error 99" and can't do jack with the camera. I researched online and even called keh ... I read and heard that it has to do with the lens... so I sen't the camera back and got my money.
