Disk Error I am encountering a disk error when I try to finalize the disk. This has happened several times now. I don't want to lose these pictures

1st run disk cleanup. Then compress you C-drive this will compress all your file freeing up space. Then download CCleaner and run that. Finally, run disk defrag. But you should also erase stuff you do not need.

Run the Check Disk Utility

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.If check disk fails to fix it, then you will need to reinstall your operating system. Do a Repair Install so that you don't lose your data.

With out disk windows repair is not possible, you have try Restore option, may be your windows recover, other wise you must needed the os disk.

It could be several things, if you are just starting the computer for the first time, it may have encountered an error on the installation media.
Are you using a DVD or CD for the installation? Try cleaning it and retry.
If this is the first time you have attempted it, retry.

If still fails use the emergency disk that comes with all asus machines.

Each time you execute finalization, the disc remaining space will decrease by approximately 13 MB. If you don’t have enough room, it won’t allow you to finalize the disc.
To finalize this disc, you have to delete some pictures to make enough space. But don’t worry, before you delete those pictures, you can save them to your computer.
Find out the CDs came with your camera, refer your manual page 51 - 61 to install ‘PIXELA PTP Manager’ , connect your camera and computer with USB cable, and copy some pictures to your computer, then delete the pictures on camera side. If still not enough room, copy more and delete more. make it enough to do the finalization.

after I record a show then I push stop, it writes it to disc and gets up to 96percent and then fails.

this camera is a gem! try finalizing the disc using nero burning software or any alternative. but dont try this on the disc that has your important pictures for safety reasons.

Try using 8x and lower DVDs and -R ones; try cleaning with CD cleaning disk and then try recording a few min again. If that doesn't help try unplugging and waiting about 30min then put in disk that was previously recorded and go to last item and play it to end (if 2hr long skip to last skip and then play until it finishes) - now try just recording a few min using the manual DVD record button and see if error comes up again - usually this unplugging somehow resets everything. If you can find software to read UDF (universal disk format) you may be able to recover your pix. Whatever you do -- DO NOT reinitialize or finalize the disk. Your existing pix will certainly be lost if you do.
