SOURCE: Dell photo printer 942 all in one paper jam
Hi,
Paper jams can be real or false. The all-in-one may report a paper jam when there is not any jammed paper, however, the solution to a real paper jam or a false paper jam is the same. Up-grading the printer firmware could also fix this kind of issue, however I would appreciate if you try the steps below before you up-grade the printer firmware.
To fix the paper Jam errors please try the following steps:
1. Confirm that no foreign materials are inside the machine.
2. Confirm that usable paper is set.
3. Confirm that the paper is set properly.
4. Confirm that recommended paper is used, and the number of sheets set does not exceed the required limit.
5. Disconnect the printer power cord as well as the printer cable form the printer.
6. Turn the printer upside down and shake the printer in order to remove any obstacle which is stuck inside the printer causing the paper jam error.
Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges and check carefully if there is any small piece of paper which is stuck inside, if so carefully remove it.
7. Disconnect the printer power cord and press and hold the power button on the printer for about 15 to 20 seconds( this will release the flee power) and reconnect the printer and check.
If the above mentioned steps do not fix the issue please up-grade the printer firmware form the Support.dell.com web site. However make sure that you do not turn off either your printer or computer when you are downloading and installing the printer firmware.
Alternately you can also try to download the and install the printer drives form the support site if the paper jam message is being displayed on the computer’s screen but not on the printer’s LCD screen.
Should you require any further assistance regarding the printer or even any other computer related issue please feel free to contact me I will be more than glad to assist you.

Suggest you clean the ink cartridge nozzles, and the area on the printer, where the ink cartridge nozzles fit up against.
I'm not referring to using the printers option of cleaning the ink cartridge nozzles. I'm referring
to physically cleaning these two areas.
If a printer sits for a period, and the printing option isn't used very much, the inkjet nozzles can clog with dried ink. The inkjet nozzles have tiny holes, and are almost microscopic in diameter. Clogged inkjet nozzles in this reference are referring to the color option.
The color cartridge.
Perhaps you have used Black a lot, but not the color option lately.
To physically clean these areas you unplug the printer from power. Don protective gloves, (Dish Washing?), to keep any ink from getting on your hands. Use a clean, lint-free cloth saturated in as warm a water, as you can stand to the touch. Then wring the cloth out until it is just damp. Wipe the inkjet holes, (Nozzles), on the ink cartridge in one direction only. Keep wiping until the cloth doesn't pick up ink.
Do the same for the area on the printer, that the inkjets of the cartridge matches up to.
How to know where these areas are?
The inkjets on the cartridge, are located where you took the protective tape off of the cartridge, upon installing. There is a brass strip. The nozzle holes should be located in this strip.
The area on the printer that matches up to the inkjet nozzles of the cartridge, may be readily seen by evidence of ink left behind on this area.
If not, when you remove the ink cartridge, and look at the cartridge, you can judge where the inkjet holes would match up to the area on the printer.
When you are satisfied that both the cartridge inkjet holes are clean, and the area on the printer, let these areas dry.
You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer set on low, and constantly moving it back, and forth.
If the installation screen does not appear:
In Windows 2000, double-click My Computer from your desktop.
