Photorec is free way to recover lost data (formatted / corrupted) hard disks, CD-ROMs, memory cards (Compact Flash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital/SD, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, etc.), USB memory drives, DD raw image, EnCase E01 image, etc. It ignores the file system, this way it works even if the file system is severely damaged.
You can download it from here.
get a new cable. or a new card reader. i prefer card readers as i can take my camera around to various events, and if a friend wants an image, he can attach the reader to his computer (if nearby) and get what he wants. are you sure your computer can directly read smart media cards? possible it does, but not that common unless its fairly new. mark
The PDC 700 digital camera has 4 MB of internal flash memory on which to store images. An optional ATA-compatible Type 1 CompactFlash memory card gives your camera substantially more memory, allowing you to store more images or images of higher quality.
images captured on the CompactFlash card can be downloaded using the same method as you use to download photos from the internal memory.
The camera uses a high speed connection to retrieve images and sounds. Simply connect the serial cable to the camera and PC, and the images and voice messages from the camera's internal memory or optional SmartMedia card are transferred to the computer at up to 115 Kbps. User's can also use an optional 3.3V SSFDC or SmartMedia card adapters to transfer the images directly from a SmartMedia adapter interface to their computer's hard disk drive. Also in development is a 3.5" diskette drive adapter for users to retrieve images directly from their diskette drive to their computer's hard drive.
