Says communication not available the printer cannot communicate with the computer. tryed al the suggestions printer is on. plugs are in secure. i restarted computer i also temporarily disabled firewall. i have windows 7 and updated driver. i don't know what is wrong. when i use troubleshoot it says it finds nothing. any suggestions would be appreciated. lalena

I have no CD in order to reinstall the USB device. The machine copies and now prints, but not scans!!

I may be a bit late with this but it worked for me. Uninstall your antivirus, remove any parental controls and disable your firewall. Then, reinstall the printer and download a 2008 version of your anti virus and re-enable your firewall. I haven't reactivated the parental controls just in case it all goes pear shaped.

Follow these steps in order to resolve the issue:
Stop the Print Spooler Service: 1) Click Start. 2) Type ‘cmd’ in the Start Search box.Search results should appear. 3) Right-click on ‘cmd’ in the search results, and select Run as Administrator.The command window will appear.4) Type ‘net stop spooler’ into the command window and press <ENTER>.The Print Spooler service should now be stopped.
Delete the Printer Drivers: .
1) Click Start.
2) In the Start Search box, type ‘C:WindowsSystem32SpoolDriversw32x86’ and press <ENTER>.
3) Delete all the files and folders in this directory.
NOTE: If the folder will not delete, rename folder to w32x86.old.
Remove the Dell printer software:
1) Click Start.
2) Click Control Panel.
3) Click Programs.
4) Click Programs and Features.
5) Click the software related to the attached Dell printer to highlight it.
6) Click Uninstall/Change.
7) Follow through the prompts in order to remove the software.
8) Restart the computer.
At this point, the user should install the latest printer software from http://support.dell.com and be able to print successfully.

SOURCE: No communication between computer and printer?

I had the same problem with my X5410, installing on Windows Vista. After about 6 hours of working on it I got it resolved.
I uninstalled the Lexmark software from my computer. Start -All programs-Lexmark -uninstall.
I then turned on all components of Windows Firewall. Control Panel - Windows Firewall.
I then re-installed the Lexmark software from the CD.

Hope this works for you !!!

How do I get my printer to communicate with my computer

If you have the software then this is easy. For the setup, plug your printer into your computer and run the software. It will find the printer and prompt you to set it up wirelessly. Go through and answer all of the prompts and it will be complete. At that point you can disconnect the cable and run it wirelessly on your network or Bluetooth.

CANT ENABLE BIDIRECTIONAL COMMUNICATION X4550

I have tried to set up this wireless printer on my laptop (windows vista basic). I run through installation and get message - installation complete and the green indicator light is fully on. When I try and print I get message Printer cannot communicate with computer - please turn on 'Enable Biodirectional Communication' in printer properties. I go to control panel/printer/propertie/ports/ and I see Enable Biodirectional communication - the box is grayed out and I cannot enable it. Any suggestions?

Communication between my computer and printer not available

First check the cables between the computer and printer. Make sure they are all plugged in correctly. If that doesn't work, then remove and reinstall the printer drivers and software.

check the cable it may be bad. Its not always visable. if the usb wire is plugged in and it doesnt see it under printers then it may be the cause

Printer does not Communicate (connect) following Microsoft SP3

Try this, uninstall the printer drivers and shut down the system.
Disconnect the USB cable and restart the computer.
Once in windows reconnect the USB cable and let windows find the printer and install it.
If it asks for the CD insert it and follow the onscreen prompts.
