Hello,
Make sure you installed the full software suite for your scanner. Scanners do scan to image files but should come bundled with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Select the OCR option in your scanner settings and it will convert your scans to an editable format. Take note, OCR software is only as good as the scan, and the content on the paper, so it might make some mistakes, in which you will have to manually fix in Word etc "proofing"...
Regards, Chris

Dear
you can choose the document size.scanning resolution.color. and the format on which you want to save.ie. jpg.bmp.pdf etc.
also you can choose multiple scan option to make a multi page pdf file. there is another option ocr. optical character recognition. through which you can scan aword document to open and able to edit in ms word application.

Word docs sent as email attachments are arriving in my inbox as png files - useless. How do I change this please

.PNG stands for "Portable Network Graphics". Sounds like the sender may have scanned the document, and sent the scanned document to you? Scans will come out as either .png, .jpg, or .pdf formats.

If the file is a .png, you won't be able to edit in MS Word.

Another thing to check - Make sure when you are working on a Word Document, you are saving it as a .doc file.

  • Open MS Word Document
  • Do your editing
  • Click on the "Fille" button, and then select "save as" option
  • In the window that appears, next to the "save as type" wording click on the down triangle to see different formats to save. Select ".doc"
Bottom line... tell whomever is sending the emails with attachments, to send you the MS Word file, not a scanned file.

Scan document save as word file

You cannot save a scanned document as a Word document.
You need to save it as a jpg image file first and the use a image to text/word conversion program to make a word document.

I have a canon pixma 240. I would like to scan a document and to edit it. How can I do this...because it only save as an picture.

you'll want it to save as a .TIF or .JPG file. In order to edit, you will need some kind of photo editting software. Windows paint is probably already on your computer, but Adobe makes some good photo editting software as do some greeting card creator programs. Then you can use the software to edit the color, focus, brightness, etc. There's a free online program called PIKNIK that will also let you upload photos and edit them online. Let me know which way you want to go and I can give you more details.

UNABLE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENT

Scanners put a graphic image on your computer that is a "picture" as far as the computer is concerned and therefore, you cannot edit text because it is seen as pixels and not characters. In order to make a scanned document editable, you'll need to use the OCR function in your software (Optical Character Recognition). This is assuming your printer came with OCR software, if not, you'll need to purchase an OCR software package in order to convert images into editable documents. You should be able to find such packages for less than $50.00. Check your documentation (and help files) and look for OCR in the index or search the help files for OCR to see if such software came with your printer software package.

When I save a scanned document you increase the file size. Please. Thanks.

Document size can be set before you scan.
Your scanner software should give you options for type of document and resolution settings. If your documents are to large, set resolution lower.
Example, Black and white or greyscale scans are much smaller in size than color documents.
Saving files as jpg will compress the file for storage.
If you have an image editing program you can decrease the size of the file after the scan.

I want to scan a form and save it, and be able to fill in the blanks later. I can save it as a pdf document, but can't edit it.

When you scan it, the original manufacurer's software should allow you to save it as a Word document or some other editable format. PDF, JPG, TIF, and other image formats probably won't work.

Insignia digital photo frame won't recognize some .jpgs

When you save in Photoshop make sure you select "Baseline ("Standard") on the JPEG options when you save. That should fix the problem for you. It did the trick for My Kodak SV710 digital frame which wasn't displaying images I had edited in photoshop.
