If you changed the battery and it is the proper size battery for the vehicle and does not have a dead cell in it, rare but possible with new batteries, most likely you have a bad cable or bad connection. Check the connections and see if the vehicle will jump.

You might try and make sure the new battery is completely charged, and check the terminals, make sure they are shiny, if not, take some sandpaper/steel wool, and get them shiny!

07 ram 5.7 No start 1 click Battery cleaned charged up tried on boost - still 1 click . New starter- ran Jumper wire to starter from battery- 1 click. What can it be ?

If the battery connections at the starter are secure it is likely the solenoid is defective on the new starter.

When attempting to start monitor the battery voltage. If the voltage only changes sightly still above 12 volts it is likely that the starter motor is not getting power. Confirm that the starter solenoid is being powered when attempting to start.

If
  • all battery connections to the starter are secure
  • and power is applied to the starter solenoid
  • and no crank above 12 volts
these combined conditions will confirm that the new starter is defective.

Car is clicking when trying to start battery is new starter is new is there a starter relay on the fire wall there is 8 relays there wondering if that could be a problem

Listen to the clicking. If it comes from the starter solenoid (on the starter), then relay is not the problem, cause starter relay has passed current through to starter.. If clicking from one of those relays on the firewall, that might be a bad relay. You should be able to find the click by ear and by feel. Be sure and check your battery connections for tightness, the battery ground, and the starter connections. Could be a loose connection not letting the large current pass through.

2002 Saturn SL1, 72K miles. Hasn't been driven in

Single click? More battery is needed. Id change the battery, or slow charge it.
Might also be the security system shutting down the starter. Common on GM vehicles. Heres a link on that. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

The starter clicks but will not turn over change battery

Not the battery when you hear this....almost always is the starter.

Check your connections for the battery for corrosion/acid build-up...then check the connections to the starter....lastly...change the starter.

Starter problem

if you have changed the battery and starter we most likly at this stage rule them out.from experance i would say its an earthing problem; number one ,earth strap from car body to engine, number two earth lead from starter motor to battery, and the last one earth strap from neg side of battery to car body check all these and romove and clean.hope this cures your problem.adrian

93 buick lesabre 3.8 liter starter replaced, new one just clicks

You still have a poor connection between the battery and the starter. Or a defective battery. (the headlights, if turned on will nearly go out when the key is turned to start)
