How do i raise the handlebars on the sorrento? I love this bike but my man parts go numb because I have to lean over so far due to the seat height level I require as I am 6' 3" Please help!

Yes, all bikes have handlebar height adjustment.

There are adjusting pinch-bolts and screws & nuts on the bicycle for you to loosen where the seat rod and the handlebar shaft attach to the bike.
Older bikes took tools, some newer ones have "quick-release" locks you can do with you fingers alone.

I'm answering 7 years later. I have a Schwinn Varsity 2500 Bike made probably in 2015. The Schwinn Varsity Bike is not set up the same way as a traditional bike. I loosened the center compression bolt and the two side stem clamp bolts and it came loose where I can adjust it up or down but, there's nothing to tighten the slack up below. I did some research. My original post here was to add or remove a spacer. I think you can remove a spacer to lower but, I don't think the stem is long enough to add another one. I've seen they sell an extension that you can add-on to make the handle bars higher.

A major limitation is the steerer tube length. No matter how many times you cut a steerer tube it won't get longer.

Getting Riser Bars or simply flipping the stem over or getting one with a different rise and reach might give you the added height you need. If you LIKE the handlebars, the stem is the best and least-invasive option as most new ones come with front loaders (detachable front caps) that allow replacement without stripping components off one side of the handlebar. In minutes a Bicycle Shop could swap any number of them onto your bike for you to try.

If you had purchased the bike at a reputable Bicycle Shop they would have fit the bike to you before you took it home.

To raise or lower the handlebars, first loosen the hex screw on the top of the stem. One or two turns is all that will be necessary. Next, you will need to stand in front of the bike with the front wheel between your legs to brace it, and give the handlebars a forceful twist to the left or right. This action will break the friction of the handlebar stem and the headtube (the headtube is part of the frame where the front forks and the handlebar stem meet...). With the handlebars loosened you can adjust the handlbars up or down. Keep in mind that the stem has only a specific amount of adjustment available...there is a limit to how far it can be extended up, as indicated by a line marked on the stem shaft. Once adjusted to the desired height, check that the handlebars and front fork and wheel are aligned. Tighten the screw in the top of the stem and you're done!

You can only raise a quill stem os far safely. Loosen the vertical center bolt that's in line with the steerer tube a few turns and then tap down on it with a block of wood or rubber mallet to unseat it. The stem should be loose enough to turn independently of the front wheel. You can also raise it somewhat, but look carefully for the "maximum height" or equivalent markings etched into the stem body. Don't expose any more stem than up to that line. Line up your handlebars with the front wheel and securely tighten that bolt. It should be tight enough to vigorously resist independent rotation when you hold the front wheel bewteen your knees and attempt to turn the handlebars.

If it's a new-style threadless type stem, the maximum height was determined when they assembled the bike because they had to cut the steerer tube to be below the top edge of the stem. Go to a Bike Shop and have them replace the stem with one that has a higher rise or shorter reach.

behind the handle bars, where it joins to the bike is called a stem. Remove the center allen key bolt that runs down the center tube. Lift the handle bars up an inch and tighten the allen key bolt again. Your handlebars will now be a little higher for you.

Another way is to loosen the clamp bolts that hold the handlebars to the stem. With riser bars, you can twist them in the same spot and this will angle them up a little. You will have to loosen the brake/gear levers and angle them down until they suit you.

If neither of these works you can buy stems which have varying heights and lengths.
