Hi, I am having trouble to turn on my Optio S. When I press the on/off button, the lense will pop out and goes right back. It seems like it cannot start the O/S. However, when I only turn on to view picture, then it's fine. Do any of you have the same problem? I am thinking either something wrong with the lense or the borad. Any input helps. Thanks

Re: Cannot turn on my Optio S
I have had problems like that with mine.. Along with some other problems ... like the pictures have lines through them.. and sometimes the lens doesn't come back in and it smokes when I take a flash..... and a few other odd things happen... so sent it in for repairs and they said it would be $170 to fix it.. So I figured it had a good life after 10,000 pictures and retired it and got a Optio WP :-)
So that's my story of the ever so loved Optio S

Hi there - these are older posts, but I just experienced this problem (it appears to be pretty common). The fix I discovered (that works), is to insert your batteries (make sure they're fresh), and then press and hold the "on" button plus "Menu" button, together at the same time. Hold until the firmware resets (a message will pop up on screen and the camera will reset). Voila! It works again for as long as the batteries are in and operational. Also note that in my case, if the batteries are taken out, I have to go thru the reset process again, but at least I have the camera back up and running. Hope this helps others!!
