I own a [digital] Pentax camera - Optio 450 - and one of the wires in the cable that connects the camera to my computer has come out, rendering the cable useless. Are these cables sold separately? can it be fixed? so far have learned nothing from 'pentax.ca' or from store where i bought it (other than that they do not sell cables separately)

My Optio 450 has the same type of cover and I am surprised how tough the cover is. I thought it would have broken by now.
I suggest a call to Pentax would answer your question about getting it fixed.
Alternatively, just leave it. The Plastic hinge should keep it closed
