Iam not able to get a picture from my hdmi cable, but can still here sound. tried three different hdmi cables... please can you help...

1. Your Connections Are Faulty

Quite often, the cause of the no picture problem is a simple one - loose cords. Make sure that the cords are plugged in tightly, both on the TV side and the PS3 side. This is especially true with the HDMI cable connection on the PS3. Often, it looks tight, but you still might need to wiggle it a bit more to seat it correctly. Along the same lines, make sure that the cords you are using are new and match the connections properly on both the TV and your console.

2. Wrong Connection Settings

If you are using the HDMI/DVI cables and you don't get any picture, make sure to check your video ouput settings. If your PS3 thinks you are using standard A/V cords to connect to the set, you'll have issues. The opposite is true too - if you are using the A/V cords and your PS3 thinks otherwise, you'll have the same no picture problem. Make sure you settings match the types of cable connectors you are using.

3. Wrong Resolution Setting

This is also an easy mistake to make that can result in no picture showing on your television screen. For example, if you've been using your PS3 with an HDTV and then try to hook it up to a standard definition television set, you'll encounter this issue. The cure is simple; just go into your settings and switch back to standard resolution and then restart your system. The 720p resolution is the default setting and this should work for most standard definition televisions.

The console turns on but three is sound but not picture

Make sure your a/v cables are hooked up properly, and also make sure your tv is set to whatever video input your using.

If that doesn't work, try different video inputs on your tv and also try a new set of cables.

If after that you still can't get video then the main board inside of the ps2 is bad.

Origiannly had my son's PS# hooked up to our HD TV

You must reset your PS3 in order to accept the new TV configuration.

  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

    No Picture, Only sound

You need to tell the PS3 that you are now using the new video method. It is still trying to output video on the yellow cable, not the component. If you go to settings>video and tell it to use component, and then switch the cables real quick, it should work.

An easier solution is to do a backup from the system menu, then a "restore" (quick restore is fine), and then power it off, hook up the new cable, and it will detect the video method when it turns on for the "first" time (since the restore).

You do have component input on your TV, and that is the input you are on when you are trying this, yes?

    Playstation 3 hook up

If there is no picture on the TV screen: Back to top
    • Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
    • There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION®3.

Trying to get ps2 to play on new tv..

USE a VCR between the PS2 and the Sylvania TV.  Hook the PS2 A/V cable RCA connectors( Red, Yellow, White) to one of the the Video input RCA connectors( Yellow, Red, White) on the VCR. Hook the VCR Cable output to your Sylvania Cable input. Set the Sylvania Tv to channel 3 or 4.  Set the VCR channel to Line 1 or Line 2.  This should work. I hope it helps you.
