I left batteries in my Triton 2000 and they corroded. My unit will turn on with new batteries but will not access any of my button commands. I have to take the batteries out to turn the unit off. Should I buy a new hand held gps or can this one be fixed?

Never seen that error. Try to remove the batteries and hold down the on button for a few seconds. Reinstall the batteries and turn on. If the error comes up again, give Triton a call.

were the old batteries corroded? check and clean the battery terminals , a pencil eraser works good for this

1.Ok, if you have tried the manual update and it won't work then the thing to do is download this file:

To download the file just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and blue highlighted section of text just above.

2.And then connect your GPS your computer and start it in the developers mode - which should make it connect to your computer as a USB driver.

To start your GPS in developer mode ,simultaneously press and hold the POWER - LIGHT - UP ARROW buttons as you start the GPS.
Want to get out of this mode, you can reboot the unit by simultaneously pressing and holding the POWER - SELECT - ESC buttons or just take out one of the batteries.

3.Next unzip the T500TFAT2.ZIP file to a directory on your hard drive. Once you have that unzipped go to "My Computer" and access the TFAT directory on your Triton and erase all of the files on it. Then copy all of the files from the T500TFAT2 file that I sent you. Once you have the new files in place then disconnect your Triton from the computer and reboot it and see if it works.

Bad news. If after putting a new set of AA alkaline batteries in the unit and it still does not turn on then the motherboards has a component problem.

When the batteries died .. a problem was created with the internal memory files. They have been corrupted. It is too complicated to fix yourself. Your problem is a corrupt file in the Triton. Try the only known third party repair center in the USA at www.jungleghost.com.

Did you try to depress the lamp button on the top left side of the unit to make sure that the lamp was turned on.

Also you may have a set of bad batteries .. replace them.
