Bad battery life has a number of major causes: The primary causes are: Selection of the wrong battery chemistry or type for the camera used Extremely power-intensive use of the camera A damaged battery (probably the least common cause of bad battery life) The way in which the camera is used is at least as important as the battery chemistry selection in influencing battery life. The highest power-usage modes in any digital camera will be video and live preview. Thus, heavy users of these modes will see the shortest battery life. Other significant power consumers are the strobe, zoom motor, fill flash, and the image LCD display. For longer battery life, use these modes only as necessary.
