Question about Nikon Coolpix S203 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have had my Nikon S2 coolpix about 3 years, and I love it. Suddenly it will not take pictures. When I turn it on, the screen shows a small camera top left, a square box with an arrow pointing up, top right. directly under the box is a flashing red hand, and the camera is making a strange clicking sound???

My LCD was black but everything else worked fine. I snacked it against the palm of my hand as recommended and it worked immediately. Wish I had know when I was travelling.

Nikon coolpix camera has lines

Hi,

You no need to fix this problem. This is a CCD failure and in some cases had been subject to a recall. Contact Nikon support-this may be one of the recalls and replacement camera could be on its way. They will do it for free of cost.

Thank you !!

Yes! Send the camera to Nikon with the service form. It takes about 3 weeks, free of charge.

Screen is Blank..

A sudden jolt like that can damage the working parts of the lens, and or the internal connections. What can happen is that the small connectors can become unhooked and lose conductivity. If that happens, then you various controls or all controls will quit.
Because the screen is blank or black, it could also mean that the LCD is broken.

Replace the Camera.
This is a mainboard problem- possibly only a connector worked loose
Sometime gentle squeezing of the camera cace at the base under the screen or gentle slapping in the palm oh hand may induce a re connect.
But essentially this is not going to get repaired

Can't take pictures

The blinking red clock means the date and time are not set, I think.  I have a 7900 that won't take pictures after a battery charge.  It's worked for over 3 years and then suddenly no more pictures.  I uploaded firmware version 1.2 and that didn't fix it either.

Mostly blank screens with moving streaks of light

This is a known problem in the Coolpix 5700 - Nikon will replace the defective CCD at no charge. Go here: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
