Yes. If you want to restore the same startup screen after formatting built-in memory, you will need to have the image saved to some medium. The camera's default startup image is not deleted by formatting built-in memory. Formatting a memory card does not delete your startup screen.

How to unlock a photo in camara

The protect function allows a user to protect a picture from accidental deletion. To unprotect a picture on your camera, scroll to the protected picture that you want to delete, then press the Menu button (the button to the right of the Play button.) Scroll down the menu and you should come to an option that allows you to Protect/Unprotect the picture. Since your picture is currently protected, deselect that option. You should then be able to delete the picture normally.

Alternatively, you could also format the memory card, however this deletes ALL photos and data you have on the memory card. If you are trying to completely clear the memory, this is the best way. After turning on your camera, simply press the Menu button, scroll to Setup, then scroll down to Format. Select Format, it will ask you if you want to format the memory card, or the camera's built-in memory. Format whichever one you want to clear, if you are using a memory card then your pictures are stored on the memory card. It will take a few seconds to format.

Hope this helps.

Camera says out of memory won't let me take pictures. i cleared all the pictures out and still cant take pictures. What do you think the problem is?

I'm assuming you are trying to use an SD card in your camera and not the internal memory. I suggest you format the memory card if you are sure there is nothing on the card. Formatting the memory card deletes everything on the card and sets it up with a file system that your camera recognizes. Follow these steps to format your memory card using your camera. 1. Turn camera off 2. Insert memory card 3. Turn camera on 4. When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the [Format card] option appears in the setup menu 5. Choose Format to format the entire card. Don't choose Quick Format 6. Wait until your card is formatted
After formatting your memory card, try turning your camera off and on and you should now be able to take pictures to your memory card.
P.S. If you remove your memory card you can choose Format Memory from the setup menu to format the camera's built-in internal memory

I have the dmc-lz3 and the built in memory is full...how do i delete the memory and also...i purchased a 8.0 gb memory card and the camera is not finding it..can you help please

If you delete the internal memory, you will lose all your pictures...is that what you want? If so, with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. The 8GB card you purchased is an SDHC card....your camera can only use SD cards.

Error message Built in memory full. Also won't read memory card.

You need to format the internal memory with no card in the camera. Then, you need to format the memory card in the camera.

New memory card will not format

You are probably using a 4 gigabyte memory card and your camera will only support a 2 gigabyte card. Get the right card and it will format properly.

If I change the startup screen, what happens to the old startup screen?

Except for the built-in preset startup screen, changing the startup screen causes the previous screen to be deleted from startup screen memory. You will not be able to reuse a replaced startup screen unless you have its image saved somewhere else.
