Unfortunately the largest ones are only 2 Gb

Tested the xD 2Gb H & M+ on my own 3800 and both work great.
It sounds like you set the file settings to a small file size - perhaps in order to get more photos on a single memory card. You need to change the setting to the largest file size possible, at the highest quality. The steps for this will be in your manual. If you need detailed instructions and don't have your manual, let me know and I'll lookup your manual online.
All the size and quality has to do with is the storage. You are not really going to be able to see a difference in it when you look at it. Where you are going to be able to see the difference is when you look at the file sizes.
It's possible that the video file you are sending is too large. A few seconds of video from your camera will already be in a few megabytes (assuming that the camera is set to high resolution). How large is the file?
For smaller file size of video from your camera, you can lower the frame size. Here's how you do it:

The best picture quality setting on the D-390 is SHQ (Super High Quality). The SHQ file is the largest of all four quality settings. The image file size is approximately 786K.
