SOURCE: Can't take pictures
The focus element within your lens may not be moving normally. This can be due to contamination such as sand, impact, or failure of the motor itself. If the lens cannot resolve proper focus the auto focus system on the chip will not continue to take the picture. Another possible reason is that the button has simply failed. SOURCE: no pictures when in autofocus mode
i'm having this problem too. Started playing up last night, not auto focussing properly or taking photos in AF mode. Now it will only take photos if I'm focussing manually AND am in one of the preset modes... I can't use the M, A, S or P modes.

SOURCE: Cannot take picture
Check the switch on the side of the lens, it should be in "AF" not "M". The switch turns the motor in the lens on and off. If the switch is set to "M" the automatic mode on the camera will not work.
