Check it if it works with Windows Media Player. Install the latest sound driver from the manufacturer's website. Some motherboards' sound drivers refuse to work. I think your PC is assembled.

it is simple. there is a bad setting in equalizer or sound settings. so: 1- change settings of Winamp or reinstall it. 2- download this software and use "Windows Media Player Classic" to play the sound. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm
If your default media player is worrking alright then it is possible that the WINAMP installed is having some software issues with your laptop sound driver.
Hence it will be good to uninstall the winamp and choose a new download to be installed and tried.
However if there is issues with the media player then the driver must be reinstalled.
My long standing WinAmp suddely started giving me the following message: "Bad Direct Sound driver, Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code 88780078"
1.) Open Winamp
2.) Press and hold down Ctrl+P (for preferences)
3.) Go to Plug-ins --> Output
4.) Double click on "DirectSound output"
5.) Click on the Driver tab
6.) Make sure the device in the drop-down list correctly reflects your soundcard.
Try going into the device manager and removing the sound driver. Hopefully you have the sound card driver. Then reboot the Pc if the system installs the driver software and you hear noise your good. If that doesn't install it from your cd. If it works try uninstalling the program that caused the problem.

I ahve problem like My laptop is C700 series of compaq(C772TU) I ahve changed it OS from vista to XP and now there is no audio output whenever I try to play a song it gives msg like " Please installproper device or select another device in configuration Error code: 88780078"
please suggest me proper solution
