Could be one of two things....

1 - you may have bad cartridges (usually the color)...when the machine does an alignment it looks for specific marks on the paper...ie..green check marks before each line etc...if the correct marks are not there you will get an alignment failure...if the green check marks are there etc then you have a different problem...first replace color cartridge with a HP Brand cartridge

2- spot sensor on the side of carriage is not working...this is the little blue/green light that comes on during alignment. Its what reads the markings on paper so if the markings are correctly there and you still get this error then the spot sensor needs to be replaced. Simple fix that u can do. We sell the spot sensor for $15

New cartidge now printing light. Also message states cartridge alignment fails. Please help. Thanks, John

What you could try is to do a Clean the Print Cartridges operation. This process will clean the cartridge printhead and will print a better alignment page.

I insert a new print cartridge and align it as asked. But the printer says it won't align. I have an HP officejet J5780 all in one. Thanks.

Several Steps to take.
If all else fails try a new or different cartridge before you get too carried away looking at the printer for the problem.
1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for approx. 30 seconds (some units take this long to bleed the power out of the unit).
2. Plug in the printer and step thru the start up procedure (turn it on what ever - not the set up program).
3. Retry the cartridge alignment procedure.
4. If alignment still fails verify that the cartridge electrical contacts are clean and the jet opening is not blocked.
5. Reinstall after cleaning and checking.

hi,

Check your black ink cartidge. it may be empty.change it with new balck cartridge

this problem may also be due to cartidge holder .
clean cartrideg holder with moist cotton with petrol or some other cleaning liquid as nail polish remover. clean properly the cartirdge socket and mainly the contact point of cartridge socket

Failure to align cartidge after inserting new one

It could well be that your scanner function is broken but hoepfully it is just malfunctioning, I would recommend trying to print a troubleshooting page from the system's menu to see if it lists any error codes regarding the scanner.

Won't print from computer

You didn't mention how old your printer is. You might try cleaning the contacts on the inside of the printer and then running through the cleaning routine the manual suggests. Then go through the alignment routine.

It could also be the cartridges. I had problems with HP genuine cartridges. They were usually dried out. I started using re manufactured cartridges and they worked every time.

Hope this helps...

Alignment after new cartridge

Hi I think that you will need to clean the gold dots on the printer carriage or if not done so remove the blue tape from the cartridge or if you are trying to use refills install some originals as this may help.

Hope this helps'
