AEG Lavatherm 57800 error E50 aftert a few minutes Cleared all filters etc Any Ideas?

I presume this is the motor that drives the drum?

I have taken that out, there is a fan/impeller either end and three wires off a small connector that go straight into the coil, but no brushes at all.

Do i need to take the motor apart it appears to b e held together by 4 long bolts

  • psullivan130 Jun 24, 2011

I took this motor out completely and took it apart, there are no brushes at all, just a pair of coils with a commutator inside.

I have a problem with my AEG 57800 dryer it comes up with E50 after 3 minutes , the motor in this is very small and has no brushes to change as advised by previous expert.

    Can anyone help?

  • psullivan130 Jun 26, 2011

    Hi,

I did see this info on the web but as there are no brushes this was confusing.

How do i check the capacitor with a meter?

    Thanks

Old question but let's help others. I fixed this same problem. Occasionally I could get the machine running, but it would just turn for a few spins once every five minutes, and ended up with E50.

I cleaned the carbon contact behind the machine, under the plastic cover, and outside the drum on the top of the machine. And also all the contacts on the main PCB. Works again. And remember, this machine MUST be earthed, because otherwise the moisture sensor will not work.

E50 refers to a motor problem. This one doesn't have any carbon brushes, so just loosen the belt and check that the motor turns freely. The main PCB somehow monitors the motor load, and this is where those bad contacts come into questions. If cleanind them doesn't help, you probably have a faulty PCB. I use an old toothbrush and some good contact cleaner. And then finish the job with some protective spray.

The problem is a worn motor carbon brush which connects power to the motor commutator. The carbon brushes are worn if the motor runs intermittently, if sparks are coming from the brushes, or if the motor doesn't run at all. This video should help you know more about motor carbon brushes and how they work. The video features a washing machine but the carbon brushes are basically the same.

E50, This is often a motor problem usually, check the capacitor attached to the motor as this starts the motor rotating. if not that then the motor itself, if the motor cap are OK, then it must be the controller board.

Code fault E50

Need to put into self diagnostic mode and test the components. You can find the tech repair sheet in the machines that will tell you both what the error code is, how to test it, and how to replace it.

try cleaning the drum contact on the rear of the machine. It is a carbon brush that contacts the drum spindle. It can get covered in carbon from the brush.Remove the plastic cover containing the contact brush, clean out all carbon dust and lightly sand the drum spindle to remove any surface build-up and ensure a good electrical contact then reassemble.

AEG Lavatherm 58800. Errors E54 - the motor cannot turn the load (but very little loaded) E51 - door suddenly opens

Hi if the drum is not stiff and runs free and the motor is energised but not powerful enough it can be thr start capacitor located nearby the motor. its a small cylindical silver can rated at 8 microfarads (125 00 20-33/4 approx £8.50 .) You cant measure it the best way is to try one known to be good. If its not that it is more likely to be the electronic board. You can look for cracked soldered joints and resolder (lead free solder) otherwise its a new electronic.hope this helps
