Gas and oil mixture in car, car won't start?

change oil, oil filter ,spark plugs, wires, gas filter and air filter
this is the least you need to do when you buy a used car
than check for fuel pressure

watch your oil pressure when cranking, you have to have some oil pressure to get the fuel system to start. you may have to find the hot wire at the relay and energize it to see if it is indeed the fuel pump going out. if its been sitting and its a 97 the fuel pump just might have went, you can also try hitting the gas tank from the outside in the middle to see if that works too. have a water hose or fire extinguisher around when your working on fuel system and leave one of your battery cable a little loose..

Did engine was over heated,temp. was high.

replace your fuel & air filters, add some fuel injector cleaner to gas tank, todays fuel w/ ethanol is hurting your engine, change your oil also.

You have a crack in the engine block...the block is done for!!

The most common reason a car will crank but not start and you smell gas is you flooded it. Done cars have a kill switch if they are low on oil. Check your oil. If the oil is good, it may be the ignition switch.

try turning on the ignition without starting it and see if you can hear the fuel pump humm. if nothing then probably fuel pump but i wouldnt mess with the carb unless you know what your doing that screw could be controling your fuel air mixture

Either your power brake assist booster has a bad check valve in it causing a huge vacuum leak when you step on the brake (Vacuum leaks lean out the fuel/air mixture causing stalling) or you have an 'engine protect' sensor that kills the ignition/fuel pump when the oil level's too low and it's either got crud in it from running the oil too low or has otherwise malfunctioned.
