Sony HDR-UX7. I inherited this camera at work and it seems to work ok as long as it 's plugged into the wall. but the second you unplug it, it dies. It has a Sony brand NP-FH70 battery with it and while it's plugged in, the charging light will be on. I thought the battery was dead so I bought a Digipower brand NP-FV50 battery and it does the same thing. Zero power as soon as it's unplugged. I'm pretty sure these aren't the wrong batteries. What's the deal?

Well the problem can be a number of things.
Problems:
1. Your computer may not be connecting to the batteries.
2. May be unlucky and gotten 2 bad batteries
3. Your PC may be rejecting the batteries
4. Your computer may be shorting the batteries upon plug in (VERY RARE)

SOURCE: Can a lithium ion battery be overcharged?

Here's a small FAQ I found: 1) My lithium ion battery is the SONY NP-FP70 Battery Pack. Does the fact that the battery is called a battery pack mean that it has built in circuitry to prevent an overcharge? No. I write with some authority since I've dissected too many and there is no such circuit in the battery. From a system perspective it doesn't belong there. 2) Is there any way of knowing if my SONY BC-TRP charger has the circuitry for preventing an overcharge? You'll have to ask, but the key clues are: a. The documention tells you to not leave it plugged in overnight. b. The battery gets too hot and melts the plastic. 3) If I charge my battery in my camcorder (SONY DCR-HC40), can I assume it has the built in circuitry to prevent an overcharge? a. One can't assume anything. b. But from what I read on that model, you plug it in and forget about it. To do that, it would have a proper charge circuit.

SOURCE: Draining battery

This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin. Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you. Hope this helps you. SOURCE: Battery life?

Here is a replacement source

The batteries are covered under warranty for three years. Sony batteries are know for not keeping a good charge after a few years.

If there not holding a charge, they wouldn't appear on the LCD screen at all. I the AC power is working fine, then that probably isn't the source for not getting a charge.

You could try lightly scraping the contacts on the battery and see if that makes a difference and recharge them.

My sony hdr-sr11 got some water splashed on it and will not remain turned on. Is there a way to dry things out?

Did you remove the battery and let it dry out before you tried plugging it in and turning it on? If not, you're damaging it further every second you have it plugged in, and even more every time you try turning it on.

The fact that it still turns on briefly may mean there's still a chance. Unplug it, remove the battery, and put it in a warm, dry place. If you have a bag of uncooked rice, put it in there. Otherwise, inside a window with sunny exposure will do. Do not put it in the microwave oven, or under a hair dryer. Leave it for a day or two (or longer, if you're in a really humid environment).

Once it's dry, replace the battery, plug it in, and try it. If it works, great. If not, then you'll have to replace it or take it in for repair.

Take?»¿ OUT the battery or disconnect the AC cord.
Turn the camera ON (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.

Sony hdr-cx7 image jitters when the cam gets hot

one fix is turning off steadyshot then try putting the camcorder upright(the lens pointing up) for few second until you see the video stabilize, then use as normal but the camcorder will jitter again if handle it roughly. This is just a workaround, i still dont know why it happens, need to send it for repair soon.

I finalised the disc but cannot play on my laptop. It says no data.

see if you can watch it on the camera, if you can you need to finalize it in mpeg 3 or 4 to see it on the computer, you may have to plug the cord from the camera to the computer and play the disk and capture it on your computer and render it on your computer in order to view it on your computer.
