I had a similar problem with a 1TB seagate3.5 inch drive. I removed the drive from the defective case/interface and installed it in my desk top as a 2nd hard disk. Data retrieved. for a 2.5 inch drive you can buy an adapter tray, or an empty caddy on Ebay to pop your hard disk into. no special tools just 2 or 3 small screws.

Replace the cable you are currently using with your printer cable and see if it is the cable if that is not the case I would open the case, and check your connections on the hard drive, there is a chance it might have come loose.

My computer frequently stops responding, specially when i minimize windows. My screen usually leaves annoying images. I think it freezes that way. I've checked the device manager, my windows...

How much memory does your computer have? Alot of times when the temporary memory gets full everything will slow down and will cause applications to stop responding.
It can also be your hardrive is too full. The more space you use on your hardrive the slower it will go and if you fill it too full it will also make programs stop responding.

My passport 500gb external just stopped working. It froze up so I removed it and plugged it back in. When I plugged it back into my computer it starts spinning but then makes a click sound and stops.

The clicking sound is caused by the spindle inside the hardrive, because it was not removed properly. Just connect you external hardrive to your computer, if it makes the clicking sound again dont remove it yet, just restart your computer properly. In that way all the devices connected to the computer will be refreshed and properly shut down. If it is not detected still, unplug the haardrive then try another USB port. Recommended ports are at the back of the CPU if your using a desktop. These USB ports have higher voltage output that can power up all external hardrives properly.

Bought 500Gb two months ago, greatproduct. My wife has put 4 months of college photography on the hardrive and has had no problems retrieving.Suddenly two nights ago stopped working, power light is on...

Plug it into a friend's computer (in the same cables as his main drive) (Turn the system off and pull the plug out first!) Tell us if it works there.

Data loss happens all the time for various reasons. That's why you need to learn how to use a CD burning program to transfer the pictures to CD's. If you don't want to burn often, get yourself a 16GB little flash drive at least.

External hard drive doesn't respond

Shut your computer down. Disconnect you external hardrive. Power up your computer again. Power up the Verbatim and then connect to a USB port. You should hear a very quiet 'ping'.

Go to My Computer, and the Verbatim should be showing as one of your drives (probably Drive D). You should be able to open it from there.

Make sure that you have a Desk Top Icon for opening the hardrive, it makes it so much easier. Hope this helps
