Samsung LN-S4051D 40 in. LCD Television Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 22, 2011

I have a Samsung LN-T4065F LCD TV bought in September 2007. Recently, the display started flashing after viewing for a while. Then started noticing some artifacts on the display - dots which look like a starry night. Now the display just keeps flashing all the time on all inputs (cable, DVD etc.) Have any of you had or seen the same problem? Is this the result of bad capacitors in the power board that people have talked about? Any help/thoughts appreciated.

The bad caps issue will cause you not to have backlights or not turing on (thr main relay will click on but the main power supply will remain off).
This sounds more like the main board or possibly the T-CON board.
The artifacts also show when the on sceen menu is on?

Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

The reason I think the problem is in the power board/caps is that when I unplug and connect it to another outlet (sometimes the minor sparking shows a cap discharge) the flashing stops!
The artifacts (pink dots and the streaks) have come on only about three times. Mostly it is a flashing problem.

I need to replace 4 or 5 capacitors in my Samsung LN-T4065F. From what I have read, I need 1000uf 16V or higher and low-ESR. What other information do I need to order the right ones?

Hello

Sounds like you have this one all wrapped up. If you have a local electronics store you can shop there (NOT RADIO SHACK) if not the web is FULL of sites...

DigiKey http://www.digikey.com/ has always been my favorite, but there are lots of others.

Best of luck

1. Make sure you have connected the cable to the correct input on the set.

2. Access the User Menu and do a "Scan for DIGITAL" channels.

That should do it...

My Samsung LN-T4065F picture has red ghost like images. originally, the images would go away after a time but now appear to be permanent. the tv is approx. 18 months old and does not have that many hours...

I'd start by checking the cables going into and out of the tcon board, if that doesn't fix it chances are its a bad board, since it would take a few mins to basically warm up to work before it started doing this all the time one other thing you can try if its not cables is to bake the board..Chances of that fixing it are kind of slim but I have had it work a few times with timing boards I couldn't find. You can youtube this and find some vids on how to do it.

This type of failure might be due to defective capacitors in the power supply. Check this link for more info on power supply failures and DIY tips.
Let me know if you require further assitance.

How hard it is to replace by yourself main board Samsung LN-T4065

You need to do some more diagnosing of the problem. If you get sound and change channels take a bright flashlight and place it again the screen. Look for an image around the edge of the flashlight.
If you see an image that means the LCD controller board (TCON) is probably good.

The problem is probably one of three causes;
1) Inverter board is bad
2) CCFT (cold cathode fluorescent light) are bad.
3) Power to the inverter board is bad. You can also check the connectors.
