Inside the epson on the right side, there is a small windshield wiper for lack of a better word. This wipes the tip of the head. Things you can try but not factory recommended. When the ink containers are parked they are on the right, in order to see this black 1.5 inch strip you will need the ink to be on the left. generally turn it on and unplug it when it goes to the left. you can take a cotton swab now and gently dry off this wiper. after you have done both sides of the wiper, you can put some windex on a new cotton swab and go over the wiper one more time. wait 2-3 minutes for it to dry. then try to use it again.

If you have already tried the maintenance tab on the Ctrl-P, Properties, Maintenance for a windows vista OS, nosel check, head cleaning and printing adjustment....if your not broke yet on print cartridges, as these all take ink try printing only in black and white, or Grey scale. If you don't know most black comes from combining all your colors and some black. Yes I know we all thought that when we print black that it only used the black unit but no!

Smudged ink

Chances are the fuser is not working correctly. How warm is the paper as soon as it leaves the printer? It should be quite warm. The fuser heats the toner and 'fuses' it to the paper. If the fuser does not get hot enough, then the toner which is a powder smudges on the paper. Also not setting the correct paper type for a tray will also cause the toner to smudge as the printer adjusts the temperature based on the type of paper selected.

Hi! You may want to try head cleaning to resolve the blurry prints. The smudge may be caused by a full waste ink pad. Try to replace the wastepad and it may resolve the problem. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Blue color appears pinkinsh/now stripes and smudging

Are you using third party ink? make sure your ink is xerox OEM. This will clogg up the inkjets and ruin the print head for ever, If you have always used the third party ink then you might want to get a new print head. . If you have used xerox ink then It sounds like the magenta reservoir has spilled over the cyan. This is caused by moving the printer and not waiting for the cool down procedure. Also you might want to change the print head wiper. If the print head wiper is over used it won't clean the print head properly and what that causes is for ink to build up and causes smudge. also make sure the drum maintance kit is still in good shape. (its the yellow roller on the right side of the printer. Well hopefully this helps .

Ink comes out heavy in spots on print outs as if you had a jam and then the ink smudges - ink does not smudge just heavy on certain spots

Sounds like you need to replace either the fuser or the rollers the rollers could have ink build on them and it would smudge the ink.

I have black smudges on my printouts. I using

This may be the cartridge itself, take the black ink cartridge out and check the head on it (the part that points in to the printer, usually down) and see if it is dirty or has ink smudges on it.

Poor quality smudge and ink blotting marks in the centre of any printed document

Try performing a test by printing a test page from Tray 1 and open the top cover as soon as the paper is 60% inside. The paper would jam below the toner cartridge before it reaches the fuser. Remove the toner cartridge carefully and verify if the smudges occur. This would eliminate the fuser. If the print quality is fine, then you need to swap the fuser.

Black ink smudges for color print mode only, not for grayscale

- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.

Blue color smears on every page

If you're still getting smudges, there must still be a label or part of a label either on one of the image drums or the transfer belt, i've found in the past it somethings gets stuck inside the unit on the cleaning blade. What i suggest is you run a print and open the front door at the paper travels along the transfer belt, look at all the image drums and see if you can see the smudge on one of them, if so the problem is caused by that cartridge if not it's in the transfer belt somewhere. You may need to try stopping the printer a few times and if the problem is in one of the cartridges, you will mst likely have to replace it, as with the transfer belt if you think that's causing the problem it's easier to remove it and rotate the belt manually.

Please note the image drums and the transfer belt are all light sensative
