Most tvs the audio out is always on. Some tvs you have to go in the audio part of the tv menu and turn it on. Also if it is optical out you may have to assign the input of your receiver to an optical input. Need a little more info like home theatre brand and how you are running audio out of the tv to the receiver.

If you get your TV programming froma Cabel or Sat Box, run the audio directly from it to the DAV. There is never a compelling reason to pass audio through a TV on its way to audio gear.

Yes it does per SONY web site:

Easy, just push PLAY on the BRAVIA® HDTV remote and everything is taken care of for you. Even when the system is off! Problems with hearing sound from bravia LCD tv through bravia DAV-HDX275 theatre system

The fiber optic port on back on your bravia tv is only for when your using a over the air antenna and watching local atsc channels in your local market. You need to run the fiber optic from your hd cablebox if it has one or your hd sat box if it has one. If you don't have a set top box with the fiberoptic port on it you can use a digital coax cable from the cable or sat box to sound system. The only other way to get sound if you don't have a cable or sat box is to run the red and white rca audio cable from the tv to the sound system and got to the audio setup on tv and turn the tv speakers off and you might have to adjust the audio to fixed instead of variable.

Please help with getting 5.1 sound from my TV!

You must run a Digital Optical cable from your PS3 to your reciever. Then press your function button on your recievers remote until you see SAT/CABLE on your recievers display. Next go to your PS3 settings and go to Sound settings, then Audio Output settings, and select Digital out (OPTICAL) then your done. This is the only way to get true digital sound from your PS3 to your reciever.
