Gateway monitor problem. Model: FPD1960TFTLCD. Runs on a PC, not a lap-top. Starts up with black and white ribbons across screen. I have to push "off/on" button 10 to 20 times for lines to stop and display correctly. Is there a cheap fix or should I just buy another monitor? It is about four years old and I only paid $100 for it new. Appreciate any help. Thanks - John.

How do I replace the f1 fuse in my gateway 7326

Will it boot? Fan spin? LED's blink? Sound? Try connecting to a external monitor, does it show desktop? The screen is all black, no cursor at top left? No "ghost Image" in the screen when viewed in a bright light? I would look at the inverter board, backlighting, ribbon cable in the rear of the monitor, the LCD screen, your laptop has some miles on it. Not sure about a fuse on a laptop motherboard, don't see that often. Take a look at this may help you troubleshoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w

A red line running verticaly down, about 3/4 across the screen

Broken connection from the screen ribbon to the monitor
screen has become disconnected, mark the spot on the screen where the line occurs
and then dismantle the screen, remove the metal cover at the top of the screen,
which exposes the pc board and the ribbon connections. Where the markings of
the line is place a piece of rubber similar to (inter-tube material)over this
area, this should apply pressure to the area of the ribbon that has a
loose connection and hold it tight. The ribbon is bonded not soldered to the
screen. Reassemble and test.

Lines on screen

This happened to me once too. It is something with the monitor, which needs to be cleaned inside, that is all. Just take it to a mechanical store and they will fix it

Gateway LP2207 Powers up to a bright white screen... nothing else

Hey Tom,

It sounds like you may have had a brown out. Did the power in your house or at least near the computer go out or flicker? A brown out is when there is less than enogh power supplied, which is much worse then a surge of excess power.

Most new computer hardware have rpeventative measures in place for this namely in the power supplies, but monitors do not. I hate to be the oen to tell you, but you probably need a new monotor.

You can test this 2 ways. Hook up the monitor to another PC and see if it is still white. Hook up a different monitor to the same PC and see if it works. If for any reason it does not seem to be the monotor, it could be the video card (and/or monitor).

Hope this helps.

Gateway fpd1960 tft lcd monitor has blotchy color lines across screen.

You likely have a bad 'controller' board, the one that converts the analog monitor signal into Row and Column addresses to tell the screen which pixels to light up, and which color. You may have a loose connection where ribbon cables connect to the board or the LCD panel, but you'd have to take it apart to see.
Likely the monitor part would be prohibitively expensive when you add in labor costs. If I owned it, I'd take it apart a bit and check for loose things...

Monitor Goes Black

Try to start in safe mode and check if you can change some of the video settings (resolution, refresh rate, etc). Maybe one of these settings is such that the monitor cannot handle properly. To get into Safe Mode, press F8 as soon as you see the Gateway logo on the screen while booting the PC.
