You don't have to turn on DHCP on your Linksys WRT54G2 Router because by default the Router's internet connection is set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP, which should be kept only if your ISP (Internet Service Provider) supports DHCP or you are connecting through a dynamic IP Address.( This option usually applies to cable connections.)
If you want to select another Internet Connection Type you can select it from the Basic Setup screen.Take Internet Setup and select the appropriate one from the drop down menu such as Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP or Telstra Cable. Most of the information in the Internet Setup section can be obtained through your ISP.
Go to 192.168.1.1
Log into the router (Default username is left blank, password is admin)
On the setup page, make sure "enable DHCP" is checked.

Hi,
You may want to press and hold (using a pen or a paper clip) the reset button of the router for 30 seconds and then unplug the power of the router. Turn off the modem, wait for 10 seconds, turn on the modem, and then the router, and make sure that the modem is connected to the internet port of the router and PC to the ethernet port (1, 2, 3 or 4). See if the router will obtain an IP address from the modem. If not, download here http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G2/download the latest firmware for the router.
Ensure that you download the correct version for the router.
