How to reformat my pc with windows xp professional service pack 2

If you have the original XP installation disk with SP2 just install it in your primary CD drive and then boot from the CD when prompted. You may have to enter your setup to change the boot sequence if your computer doesn't boot from the CD. I'd have to know what computer manufacturer and model to tell you how to enter setup, but assuming you have a legal version of Win XP SP2, it's as simple as booting from the disk, letting windows install the temporary files and it will then identify your drive and whether there are any partitions. At that point you select the partition if one is shown or it will tell you the disk size and that there currently is no partition and ask you if you want to create one. folow the prompts until you get to the format option. You can select either normal or fast NTSF format and let the installation process complete. You'll have to enter the key and do some other user input required things like your time zone etc, but that's about it.

There is only one OS, but during booting it shows three

Delete the OS Command line inside the MSConfig indow by clicking start - run -type msconfig then press enter. On the MS config window click on the boot.ini tab then you will see the command line inside the text box. Leave the first command line from [Boot Loader] till the end of the command line of your Default Operating system.

Example:
(Leave this lines)
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
(Till here!)
(Delete this line)
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Viz XP Example line Professional" /fastdetect (up to here)

any other command line that says Viz XP -- you may delete it. Click apply button then Restart the computer afterwards and this should fix the issue.

Should you have any other questions just please leave a comment.

Cheers~

Gateway MX6455 - AMD Turion 2.0Gb with 1Gb Ram Stops working and goes to black screen after POST. Will not boot into windows. The more I try re-booting, the faster it stops.

If you recently installed and any new program it could be a corrupt driver. Boot to safe mode by hitting F8 and delete it. If you didn't, you will have to remove drivers individually. Failing hardrive is another culprit.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!

Won't boot up. won't turn on.

If your battery has a good charge and you still can't power up, it is probably the internal power supply, although it could be CPU or RAM. Replacement of the CPU or RAM is not to high, but if it's the PS or MB, pitch it/ sell it for parts (after you get your data off it) If it powers up on a charged battery but not AC, it is probably the power jack and might be worth repairing (figure around $100)

BOOT.INI deleted. How to re-create this file?

Hi,
That's not a virus. Boot.ini is a default file needed for Windows OS to boot.
Fortunately, you can recreate the boot.ini files

This is a sample of the above Boot.ini file with a previous installation of Windows 2000 on a separate partition. [boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Simple way to add operating system on a separate partition:
At the command prompt, type: bootcfg /copy /d Operating System Description /ID# Where Operating System Description is a text description (e.g. Windows XP Home Edition), and where # specifies the boot entry ID in the operating systems section of the BOOT.INI file from which the copy has to be made.

Booting

dear one

you have already used the HP Operating CD to set up your hard drive (and formatted your hard drive, and installed XP, and installed the drivers, and really don't want to do that again), you can still “fix” the partitions - as long as you have the space for Quickplay outside the XP partition.

1. Boot from you HP operating system disk.
2. Press ENTER to set up Windows XP
3. Press F8 to accept License Agreement
4. With your XP partition highlighted (it’s usually C:) press Esc.
5. Make sure you have at least 250MB of unpartitioned space after your XP partition. (If you don’t, you probably have to delete XP and start all over.) I had to delete the 204 MB partition I created in the first place.
6. Once you have your XP partition and at least 250 MB of unpartitioned space, press F3 to quit. (Don’t mess with the XP partition!)
7. Press F3 again.
8. Remove your HP operating system disk.
9. If you’re really fast, you can stick your Quickplay disk in before it reboots. Otherwise, let XP load, put in your Quickplay disk, and restart.
10. Quickplay should load successfully.
11. Note that when this is done, Quickplay will actually only use 204 MB of the space after your XP partition. It just needs more than that to actually run I guess.

oke

Continuous restarting with winxp

On computers that contain Windows 98 and Windows XP: ? Windows 98 must be installed on a basic disk on a partition formatted with FAT or FAT32. If Windows 98 or Windows Me is not installed on the system partition, which is almost always the first partition on the disk, the system partition must also be formatted with FAT or FAT32. ? Compressed DriveSpace or DoubleSpace volumes won't be available while you are running Windows XP. It is not necessary to uncompress DriveSpace or DoubleSpace volumes that you will access only with Windows 98. ? Windows XP must be installed last. Otherwise important files needed for starting Windows XP could be overwritten
