Kenwood KDC-Mp438U security code

My car battery went dead had it replaced and now my Kenwood KDC-MP438U is looking for a security code. I never set one didnt think I needed too. The unit is less than 3 months old I bought it at Best Buy but my son-in-law installed the unit. I called Kenwood they suggested I go to a service center and the service center is saying they can clear the code for $55.00 I can not believe this, can you help?

Kenwood KDC-MP438U acts as if there is no power to it,dead nothin
The speaker wires are very sensitive. You need to make sure that they are not grounding out. Once the unit senses this it will shut off. Pull the plug out of the back and start over.

IF YOU DID NOT PRESS THE RESET BUTTON NEX TO THE USB PLUG, DO IT. IT WILL REINITIATE THE DEVICE TO THE FACTORY; YOU WILL HAVE TO ADJUST THE CLOCK.
I DID BECAUSE IT WAS WORKING AT FIRST.( PAGE 3 OF THE MANUAL)
