I formatted my iomega 320GB portable hard drive and now when I plug it in is says I have to format it but wont let me. When checking the properties it says it has 0 bytes and to give it a valid name which nothing works. When I tried to shut the properties window down it wouldnt without me naming it. Can I salvage the drive or should I ditch it??

I have the SAME problem. I've tried all sorts of things and can't get mine to work either! Have you found a solution? All my information is stored on here from my old laptop and I need to use it asap!

Hard drive not detected by my pc . power lite is up while connect to pc . pc is amd athalon and usb hard drive is iomega 160gb

Hello,
Install it another computer which is running well.If your Hdd run well in that computer ,change the USB cable .If the HDD can not run in another pc you think, you have lost data.Because that Hdd cant run any more.
If the problem is same.
follow the step
R_click on my computer>Properties>Hardware>Device manager>uninstall all the usb ,one after one .
After UN install all the usbroot hub, restart your PC .
If the problem , is same as before ,
Insert your OS in the cd tray > press Win key + R>type sfc /scannow (please take a space between sfc and front slash)>hit enter .Again you will restart the PC.

Hope it will help you

REQUIRE WINDOWS 7 DRIVER FOR IOMEGA SILVER SERIES 250GB EXTERNAL HARD DISC DRIVE. THANK YOU

The external hard-drive is "plug-and-play", and Windows XP/Vista/7 all support "plug-and-play".
Thus, it should automatically be detected by Windows.

So, what's your "real" problem? Symptoms? Error-messages? What happens? What does not happen?

The fan stopped working, it tipped over...

The fan is probably broken - you can use the drive without a fan - keep an eye on the drive temperature with something like SpeedFan (free). If the drive temp goes above 45C unplug it for a while. If after a while the drive temp stays below this level then it will be OK. If it keeps going over then consider getting the drive repaired
