Just received my new cobra 29 lx cb. When I turn on the power the radio comes on for about 2 seconds then the screen goes blank and all fuctions cease. When the power to the radio is turned off, the screen illuminates for a moment before it off. What is wrong? I'm running the system off a pyramid reguilated power supply 10Amps also has fuse all fuses are good and operating. Antenna is connected.

  • Check that power cord up by the tip. It is possible it is a little loos in the tip (that hooks into the radio) Being new it almost has to be related to the power feed.
  • Make sure the fuse you are using is good. Use a 4 amp fuse in there.
  • Make sure you installed all the shoulder washers in your antenna properly or this will cause a short too.
  • Your power supply could be at fault too. Take a multimeter and turn it to DC volts and make sure 13.8 is coming out of it. The power supply could be failing under a load. Have you tried a quick setup in the car? See if sticking the power cord pos to pos and neg to neg on the car battery keeps the radio running better. You don't need to have the antenna hooked up for this just DO NOT key the mike. Just long enough to see if the radio stays on for more than 2 seconds.
  • If you do all this testing and the radio still cuts out then you have a defective unit and it needs to be replaced with a properly running unit.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Cobra 29 Lx turn power up

one of the few radios that won't allow you to turn up. the most you will get is 4.5 watts . if you want power buy yourself a 250 watt liner amp and leave the radio where it is . turn VR 4 up for max modulation and go for it.

Cobra 29 lx chr le rf power output fail

no it didn't fail. the radio is designed not to except any mods without bypassing something . If you don't know what to bypass then leave it alone and turn it back to where it was.

Bought a cobra lx le from sparkys cb shack. using the radio as a base station. with the radio turned off , when i turn the power supply on a pyramid ps-7kx the radio face plate lights up for a couple of...

This is normal for the LXLE's. The new circuitry power the new face plate uses a small high voltage transformer and if power is applied to the receptacle on the radio it is drawing some current. When the power supply is turned off or on with the on/off switch on the LXLE turned off there is still a spike of current going through the radio. Not to worry, it will hurt nothing. If this is truly a problem, someone could probably design a little diode circuit to stop this issue. I would if I could but am not that smart.
