I do not have a telephone with this fax/printer -- yet it is a fax combination. How do I get the fax to work. I set it on fax with the phone number and nothing happens...what am I doinng wrong. Your response is very much appreciated.
Check if you received a software disc for the fax machine portion . If not go out to canon USA web site and look up software and downloads. You should find and download the fax software, which is required to make you machine work.
It should walk you through installation once you insert the disc. Depending on how old the software is, you may still want to go out to canon, and check with support about updates, and if you are using vista operating system on your computer, you will have to download software for vista. Other than that you should be good to go. I like to give just enough information to let folks kind of work their way through these problems, because they will pop up again and if you do it all your self you will remember and it will be much easier next time.

jigsawbill, you are a hero. guess what i found in my files? PIXMA MX310 setup CD ROM U 1.0. Is this the disc you mentioned? Now, I do not know ....excuse my blondness ... but my discs have all been installed by others ... i think i could take care of this if you mentioned how to slip it into the computer brains...i know it goes in my hP Pavillion home PC. I see two slots: hpcd writer must be the one; then there is expansion bay. Do i just put those in .... do I need to go to a setup area on the computer, or does it just tudor me through. You have been magnificent........
