The oven door locked and will not unlock. Was in prpcess of starting to clean oven when door locked by itself and would not unlock or start cleaning process.

f your 2008 Maytag double oven's lower door is locked, here are some steps you can try to unlock it:

Press Cancel/Off Key: Start by pressing the Cancel/Off key. Wait for 20-30 seconds, then try to open the door. Sometimes this simple latch reset can do the trick.

Power Cycle: Turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse box for one minute. After that, turn the power back on. Allow the oven to cool for approximately 30-90 minutes, and then move the latch arm to the left to unlock the door.

Self-Clean Cycle Interruption: If the door locked during a self-clean cycle, select the "Self Clean" option, and then choose "Cancel". Wait a couple of minutes, and then try to start the cycle again. On most of these ovens, you can either unplug the unit or flip the breaker from the main and keep it off for ten minutes, then either plugs it back in or turn it back on, and then hit and hold the start/cancel button on the control board for twenty seconds. Yu should hear a beep and then you should see the display light up and ask for you to set the time. If it does this, then the reset has worked. If so, put the oven into a self clean cycle and hit start, listen for the machine to come on, and about a minute later cancel the cycle and see if the door unlocks. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad door lock assembly and you will be forced to manually unlock the door.

To manually unlock the door, stick a screwdriver or heavy wire coat hanger in between the door oven and the door lock and see if you can disengage the door lock. If you manage to get the door open, leave the door open and put the oven into another self clean cycle. If after hitting the start button to activate the self clean cycle, you notice the door lock either not moving or getting stuck closed again you will need a new door lock assembly. If after hitting the start button, the door lock seems to be working fine, the door lock had probably shorted out during the cleaning cycle and looks to be okay now.

Unplug it. Plug it back in, then press n hold start. Make sure lock handle is all the way locked. You may have to push on the door at same time while locking n unlocking. If that doesn't work, shoot it. Ha

The appliance door is probably locked in consequence of the self cleaning cycle.

Unplug power cord, and allow the oven cooling down for few hours.

If the is still locked, then the high temperature generated in self cleaning cycle may have damaged the door latch, or the electronic control.

Parts must be tested to discover the fault.

Call Frigidaire at the number listed on the owners manual.

Hello,, Some times this will happen after a self clean cycle if the timer did not finish the entire clean. Try to set the clock to start the self clean again then simply end the self clean. This should unlock the door. If the door remains locked. You may check the oven for an error code, or the door latch itself may need to be replaced. One other possible would be to turn off the power to the oven and try to let the oven control reset. leave the power off for about 15 minutes then turn the power back on. I took the back off the stove and manually moved the door locking mechanism to unlock the door. Then started a cleaning cycle untill the door locked. Cancled that cycle and the door unlocked just fine.
Seems OK now.

resetting thebreaker sometimes will work. if not try setting to clean. after engages the door to clean simply cancel the cycle the door lock/latch will cycleback . perhaps it just glitched shut.
