Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner Logo

The trailer did not have a air conditioner in it before the trailer place installed the new dometic air conditioner. The trailer year is a 1976 AMF Skamp. I told the trailer place that I wanted a 15000 btu air conditioner and they never check the trailer out. They just ordered the AC unit. How do I determine if they wired it to match the AC unit they installed. As for as the speed of the fan motor slowing down it slows down as if you turn the unit from high speed to low speed and then it blows the breaker in my house and not in the trailer. If you feel the cord it pretty warm before it blows the breaker so I figure it is pulling to many amps. How do I check the the amp draw do I have to disconnect any wires. I am going to contact the trailer place that installed the AC unit but I want to be sure that it wasn't something wrong with my trailers prewiring from the factory before I contacted them.

You have too small a cord on it if it's heating up and then popping your breaker. The a/c has am amp rating on it's data tag, read it and then read the amp capacity of your breaker and the cord your using. If the a/c draws more than 80% of the rated amps for the cord and breaker then you need to find another way to power it up with a bigger cord and a bigger outlet. DO NOT just install a bigger breaker, it is sized for the wiring in your home and a bigger amp draw on that wiring could burn your house down.

The trailer did not have a air conditioner in it before the trailer place installed the new dometic air conditioner. It was framed and pre-wired for an AC unit. How do I check the the amp draw; do I have to disconnect any wires. I went to an electrical supply store and purchase a electrical box plug inorder to plug my trailers electrical cord directly into this box this way I elimated the pigtail. I contact the trailer place that installed the AC unit and they are the ones who told me to buy this 30 amp box that way I could plug my trailer directly into this outlet without using a pigtail. But according to the paperwork I got with the dometic AC unit a 20 amp circuit is more than efficient to operate this AC unit. How do I check to see how many amps the AC unit is pulling?

To check how many amps the a/c is pulling you need a clamp on amp meter. You have to clamp it on to one of the hot wires from the a/c unit and it will tell you how many amps it is pulling. The hot wire means that you are trying to pull too many amps through that wire, either the wire is too small or the a/c is pulling too many amps, either way it is dangerous to over heat your wires.

Need a replacement r v air conditioner shroud polaris by dometic 28inches wide 41 7/8 inches long & 9 1/2 inches high

Can you get model number of bottom of upper unit, from inside the trailer? The roof unit model number will make it easier to find replacement shroud.

The thermostat is flashing and E2 error code...what does that mean

It means the trailer is too warm for the thermostat to work - above 90 degrees inside. Take some ice and put in ziplock bag - place over thermostat and cool it down. Unit will start working when thermostat senses it is BELOW 90 degrees. FAULTY DESIGN.

I have recently replaced the fan motor on my Briskair roof top A/C unit, should the squirrel cage draw air from inside the trailer and blow out rear of the unit, or have I installed this fan incorrectly?

Yes the air should be drawn from the trailer, over the cold coils and then
back into the trailer, whether rear or front.
The condenser coils should be self contained on top and blow
warm air outside the trailer

We have an airstream trailer with a 13,500btu Dometic A/C. The problem is that the noise level is very loud while the A/C is runnining. Can we get decibel ratings for upgrades for a quieter running A/C?

It may be a simple as installing some new rubber bushings/mounts, on motor, compressor etc, and checking that the gasket between roof and upper unit isn't compressed too much, and if so, replace it as well. These all contribute to noise, as well as check bearing in fan motor for excessive play.

The fan runs, but doesn't get cold. It is a new Dometic, but has been sitting for 4 yrs. It is on a Gulf Stream (Cavalier) travel trailer.

You'll have to get someone familiar with system to check relays, capacitors, as well as power to compressor. Can be dangerous, so please if not 100% sure what your doing, ask someone who does know.
