First, have you tried removing the memory card and try inserting it once more? is the memory card fitted or compatible on your phone?
Also, have you checked if your memeory card is still in good condition?You may check the status of your memory card by placing the card to other compatible phones, if its working, the problem would be on your phone.
If it is not working still, then the problem would be on your memory card. The best thing you can do is to reformat your memory card. You may also use memeory card fixer which you can download by searching on Google.
If problem still persisits, then, you may need to chaneg your memeory card.

Sorry to hear that your contacts was lost. Since the problem is in your memory card and some of your contact details are saved in your memory card, I am sorry to tell you that you can no longer retrieve those data.
For your future problems, It would be best if you back up your contacts by saving or duplicating your contacts on both memory and phone memory, just in case the files will be lost on your phone, then you still have a back up file and vice versa.
