try ebay with the model number; I had the same thing with a sharp set I own---only way to access the menu and do things is with an original remote--if this was helpful please vote for me.

I have a citizen TV - model #JCTV 32428. I have the remote, however can't get it to program for cable. When i bring up the menu & use the remote to navigate it won't let me into the TV Catv category....

I can help you troubleshoot your TV.
I am having a little difficulty sourcing information about your model though, is it possible I haven't got the make and model correct?

You are having trouble with a Citizen brand, model JCTV 32428 or maybe 3242A?

And just so I understand your problem clearly, you have the remote for the TV, and no cable box is involved, but the TV itself wont let you into its on TV cable tv setup menus? Is it the case that you would like your TV to autotune your cable TV channels, because you cant access them? Even when you simply enter a number like 31 in?

(Because sometime TVs make you choose between an input source being Antenna or Cable, and if you choose Antenna, you are stuck with a limited amount of channels, even though the cable carries so many more.)

Regarding closed captioning, are you also looking to have the audio from programs written on the screen with the closed captioning system? Or did you mention these button to help me identify your set?

Please forgive my many qualifying questions; I would only like to understand fully.

Also, even if I can't identify your exact set and provide a manual for you, I can recommend to you that in my experience, when a TV wont let me access cable channels and options, it is because somewhere in the setup I have selected Antenna as an input source. This is the only restrictive selection I can think of, given what I know of your problem so far.

I hope that helps; do post back if I have my model numbers incorrect.

I got given to me a sony trinitron srs 37" tv, no manual and no remote. I have plugged in the cable to it and tested it with my other tv, but the sony wont get a signal. any suggestions?

Your set may be set up for the wrong type of input, like "antenna" or "cable". See if you can find a "setup" or a "menu" Button on your TV. Some times it is behind a little hinged panel. When you slect that you should get a "setup" menu go through that and find and set up the correct type of input.

Lost remote. Had cable previously and now want to

Use the controls ont eh side of the TV to access the setup menu. See pages 10, 16, 22, 60 of the manual:

Cable to Antenna Issues

You would need to purchase a universal remote, and once you program the universal you would be able to change from cable to antenna or vice versa.

Although there is a slim chance that in the setup screens on your TV (if you can access them by pushing a button on the tv) would have a selection where you could change the 'input' that is selected. If that is not an option, then it is definitely time for a universal remote.

Cable/antenna

To change between cable and antenna on your TV,
Press Home to display the "XMB" menu.
pick "settings" on the menu
then pick "channel" on the next menu
under channel settings, select "on" for cable and "off" for antenna TV.

Your user manual is available for download and option printing at the following link :

Switch to antenna mode without a remote

Can you access the menu on the front of the tv? Is so go into the menu setup and switch from cable to air then run the autoprogram to search your channels. If you cannot access the menu on the front of the tv then a remote will be required . Also if if your tv has audio/video jacks in the back of the set and you are not using them hook it up with those inputs for a better picture . Your have to push the input button to select that a/v input you used . Good luck
