When i plug in my laptop, the light indicating that the laptop is plugged in does not go on.

If you getting power then indicator light should be on. There is few possibilities. Bad power plug or socket (common). Manipulate wire when charger is plugged in and observe if indicator light comes on. Bad charger. New styles are impossible to diagnose with meter. They dont turn on unless they communicate with laptop (unlikely). Remove battery, plug charger and try to gently move plug an wire.

Acer Aspire 5517 shows BLUE light when fully charged.
Start it and check battery indicator (tray item) will probably say
plugged in fully charged (with adapter plugged in)

Sounds like your DC Power Jack is bad or broken. The DC Power Jack is where the power cord plugs into the laptop? Most times it get damaged by too much stress on it such as sitting in bed with the laptop, or putting the laptop in the laptop bag with the power cord still plugged in.

Take an ink pen and put it into where the Power Cord normally plugs into the laptop. If the pin inside the DC Jack is loose or wiggles then the jack is probably bad. Sometimes the jack can be completely burned out and you can smell smoke .

If the internal DC Power Jack is loose, you will have totake the laptop apart to repair it. The DC Power Jack is on themotherboard and most times it is soldered to the motherboard. That meansyou will have to desolder the old one and solder a new one in it's place. Sometimes the dc power jack sits in a slot between the bottom case and palmrestwhich hold it in place and has a cable harness that plugs into the motherboard.

Do you still have the power cord plugged in? There are indicator light s for Battery operation, power on, hard drive activity. If you just logged off but the laptop is stillpowered on, then there will be a light indicating that. If you powered off the laptop but left it plugged into a wall outlet, then there is a chrging indicator that will stay lit.

The lights are indicators of which operation does your laptop operates.
1. Power indicator is lighten to green meaning you are in the mode of charging your power.and if the power indicator turns to orange meaning you are now using battery power or the charging is finished.
2. Reading indicator is blinking meaning your laptop is currently processing but if the Reading indicator is not blinking and made a static light then your system is in hang up or not reading the processes.
3. Wireless indicator is blinking or lighten then you are in the a wireless mode connection. Also the bluetooth and Infrared connectivity.
So please check which light indicator is lighten when you on your laptop.

this may or may not be the solution but its some sort of indication of what is going on. Ok when you plug the ac adapter do u get a flashing light to indicate your batter is being charged? If you do then there is power going through the laptop to the battery, which is great. Now if you don't have the indicator flashing then it could be that the where the AC adapter plugs to the laptop could be now faulty. The other one could be that the AC adapter plug i.e. head that goes into the laptop some how internally has a severed connection.

Is there a power indicator light on the laptop? If so , is it on when the adapter's light is on and plugged into the laptop? If not, try gently moving the computer end of the plug on the adapter while it's all plugged in. If the power indicator on the laptop flashes briefly or comes on you have an issue with a loose power connection in the laptop and need to have it serviced . this is a very common issue with laptops that are frequently plugged in and unplugged as the motion promoted lose plugs and solder.
also the laptop could be in hibernate mode and holding the power button on the laptop down for about 7 seconds should wake it.
If still no power i would suspect the power supply and aagain i would take it and have it serviced at this point.. ALWAYS CHECK THE WARRANTEE BEFORE YOU SERVICE SOMETHING YOURSELF
